Teacher Candidate name: Helen Barclay School: Roxburgh Rise

Date: 11/10/21 Year level: 2 Lesson duration (minutes): 30 mins

Title of lesson:
- Monday Morning Webex check-in

Learning Intention(s):
- To focus back on school after the weekend

I would have added a speaking and listening learning intention here as technically it is the first lesson of the speaking and listening
unit. You can use the same learning intention the whole way through for every lesson - e.g. We are learning to orally give a clear
opinion with a justified reason. Even though this isn't specifically what was taught in this lesson, this is the ultimate aim, and the
Success Criteria (I can see this isn’t a feature of the lesson plan template your uni uses however you might like to) can be more
specific to this lesson. E.g. I can listen to the ‘would you rather’ question. I can make a choice about what I would rather. I can
type my answer in the chat.
Or, a more general speaking and listening LI for a check in could be ‘We are learning to engage clearly with our teachers and
peers on WebEx’.

Feedback/Comments

Pace and flow of the

lesson is maintained at ✔
an appropriate level Didn’t let activities or tasks go on for too long, you were able to gauge when it was time to move
on which is great.

Transitions managed
well ✔
Engaging lesson
maintaining students ✔
attention, interest and
motivation

Teacher presence -
availability and ✔
openness to students, Great use of names and general chit chat before an activity started
general interactions
with students Technology teacher presence - despite not being able to physically help students with their ipads,
if they have questions about ipads (e.g I don’t know how to use the chat) we need to take time to
try and help them solve the problem so they can engage. This can take away from other students'
time but it only needs to be done once for each problem (hopefully!!) and then they can engage
the next time.

Assessment/data is
collected effectively and ✔
is purposeful I think this was a good activity to get a general feel for where the students' levels are with
confidence when speaking/listening and engagement in general. Hard when it is online, maybe a
good idea to be taking notes of the students you don’t get much engagement from and you can
pull them aside when we are on site (not sure if you are doing this already!)

Clear guidance and

direction provided for ✔
students with Once you get a feel for the students who need a bit of extra help, ask them to repeat the
appropriate question instructions to you after explanation. E.g. ‘Okay Rahman can you tell me what game we are
time about to play/what the instruction just was?
Student engagement
and effort is monitored ✔
and acknowledged Reading out student answers from the chat is a good way to show engagement.

Constructive and timely n/a for this WebEx check in

feedback is given

Effective behaviour
management strategies ✔
were implemented Good monitoring of cameras being on, hands off ipads etc.
