THE HISTORY

OF SCULPTURE
Get to know this visual art form

BEHIND 3D ART
Western sculpture was born in Ancient Greece,
where carving and modeling were used to create
pottery and statues.

Carving (the removal of material) and modeling

(the addition of material) are two ways of creating
sculptures.

COMMON MATERIALS
Most ancient sculptures were made from wood, stone, metal,
glass, and ceramic. Famous sculptures are usually made out of
stone, as these are the ones that survived.

However, modern sculptures are made from different materials

–things like plastic and even objects we'd consider as "trash."

Throughout history, large sculptures were seen

WHY as extremely expensive and time-consuming art.

Many famous sculptures were made for either

SCULPT? politics or religion. It's only in recent times that

sculpture has gained popularity as an art form
for everyone to enjoy!
