Week 2 Reflection

One of my goals as a mentor is to stop overthinking my ideas and choices. Whenever I

begin planning my breakout lessons, I notice that I tend to second guess what I want to prepare

in fear of making a mistake. I worry that my plans are either too simple, not exciting enough or

that they are over the top. As the year progresses, I would like to start accepting the fact that

mistakes will happen, and that part of my progress is learning to grow from them. Making

mistakes now will help me learn what to continue doing in the future and what to avoid in lesson

plans. It is also beneficial for my mentees to see me make mistakes every now and then to show

them that it is okay to mess up. This will allow them to feel more comfortable participating in

group activities and discussions, and to realize that growth and confidence comes from exploring

new ideas.
