2. Based on the video presentation briefly discuss the significant events in the evolution of
computers.
- People have invented computers from generation to generation, and Charles Babbage
who is also known as the father of computers, is the first person that created or invented
mechanical computer in the year, 1822. Charles Babbage invented the mechanical
computer because it is intended to compute mathematical calculations. Vacuum tubes
were invented in the first generation of computers, in the year 1942 and 1955, and are
used to transfer data in the form of electric impulses. The ENIAC (Electronic Numerical
Integrator and Calculator) was a computer of the first generation. From 1956 to 1964,
the 2nd generation computers employed transistors, which are smaller than vacuum
tubes. This allows computers to be smaller, less expensive, and faster. Furthermore,
from the year 1965 to 1975, the 3rd generation computers used integrated circuit which
are small, but can function as fast as thousands of them, making computers faster,
cheaper, and consuming less electricity. Microprocessors, which are small silicon chips
with thousands of circuits, were utilized in 4th generation computers from the year 1975
until the present. Lastly, the most advanced computers are the 5th generation
computers, which are the future.
