 President
 Vice-President

 All members of the House of Representative/Congressmen and Governors

V. WHY DO WE VOTE: Importance of exercising the right to vote

 Opportunity to promote godliness and righteousness in the government as
we choose leaders who promote godliness and righteousness and support
religious freedom
 We are called to be salt and light, in church, outside of church, in all aspects
of our life
 We must take every possible approach to uphold righteousness in a society.
Opportunity to vote for righteousness.
 Jeremiah 29:7: “Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I
have carried you into exile. Pray for the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you
too will prosper.” Just like the Jews, we have an obligation to seek the
welfare and common good of others. Not just our own self-interest. We are
called by God to love our neighbors. Our government does not only affect
you but our neighbors. Neighbors are not just your family and loved ones.
They include our community, our countrymen – people you have not met.

VI. BIBLICAL VIEW OF GOVERNMENT AND EXAMPLES OF GOV’T LEADERS (Daniel,

Mordecai)/ SOCIAL JUSTICE

VII. GUIDELINES ON WHO TO VOTE/ BIBLICAL VALUES THAT SHOULD GUIDE OUR
VOTING BEHAVIOR (I’m not here to campaign specific candidates or political
parties)/ PURPOSE OF GOVERNMENT (punish evildoers and protect those who do
good)
 Competence and consistency with a biblical view of government:
i. protection of life. One of the things God hates and is detestable to Him
are hands that shed innocent blood. (Proverbs 6:17) – abortion and
extrajudicial killings.
ii. punishes evil and reward good/ administers justice (Romans 13)
iii. good steward – would that candidate be a good steward of the
leadership and responsibilities to be given him? Many candidates who
will run in 2022 are currently government officials. Look at their past
performance. Were they good stewards of the position God gave to
them? Did they walk the talk?
iv. Supports religious freedom.
v. Cares for the poor and needy. “Speak up for those who cannot speak for
themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge
fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” (Proverbs 31:8-9)

VIII. ADVICE
 Whatever government we have, we are not to lose hope. God is sovereign.
He always is. He is in control of everything including this pandemic.
Ultimately, our hope should be in God and not in our government. The
government is not our God. It becomes a sin when we put our trust in the
government and human systems and lose our trust in God and His ability to
control the affairs and hearts of men. The gospel teaches us to love God and
love others. If our politics makes brothers and sisters into enemies, we could
fail to love and fall into sin.
 God is the one who establishes authorities. He institutes and deposes kings
and rulers. He stirs the hearts of kings to do His will. That’s why we need to
pray. God is the King of all kings. He is the Ruler of all rulers. He has authority
over all authorities in the world.
 Nobody’s eternity is changed by anything but the gospel of Christ. Not
politics. Not the government.
 Let everything be done in love. Is not caring for our country an act of love? Is
allowing extrajudicial killings and oppression show our love for our
neighbors? Let God’s love be our main motivation in everything we do.

1. PRAY FOR OUR LEADERS

a. “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be
made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live
peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases
God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of
the truth.” -1 Timothy 2:1-4
b. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He chose for His
inheritance.” Psalm 33:12
c. “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and
seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and
will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2Chronicles 7:14
