Dear Mr. and Mrs. Guzma:

My name is Julia Riggle, a special education intern from Geneva College working with Mrs.
Werner at Hopewell Junior High School for the past few months. After receiving your approval
to work with your daughter, Aubrey, on her reading skills, I am pleased to say what a delight this
endeavor has been. She actively participated in the reading lessons and had a positive attitude
towards learning.

Aubrey has made great progress the last few months. We have been working on her overall
reading skills while focusing on reading comprehension and reading fluency. Aubrey has
worked really hard and her efforts have definitely been successful. (She moved up to sixth
grade in her fluency and comprehension progress monitoring!) I think phonemic awareness is
still a difficult area for Aubrey, but I feel she has made progress toward the mastery of them.
She appeared to enjoy some of the lessons I planned for her, and I think has begun to enjoy
reading more. Her greatest strength is linking her background knowledge to what she is reading.
Aubrey seems to be motivated to read by her sisters and her family who know how to read well.
She is especially interested in reading books about science and history. Together, we read
about Ancient Egypt and hieroglyphs. She has grasped many effective comprehension skills
that aid her ability to understand stories she reads in class. Aubrey worked on her reading
fluency by defining vocabulary words and reading out loud with more expression. Aubrey
worked on her reading comprehension by practicing looking back in the story to find answers
and sounding out unfamiliar words. I truly believe her motivation to become a better reader will
pay off for her!

Thank you again for allowing me the opportunity to work with Aubrey. She has been a huge
blessing to work with and I will always remember Aubrey and her excitement as we worked
together.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or Mrs. Werner by calling the
school at 724-375-6691 extension 2308 or 4208.

Sincerely,

Julia Riggle
