Heat transfer happens all the time, wherever we go and whatever we do.

We may or may not

notice it, but we always experience heat transfer. There are three modes of heat transfer: conduction,
convection, and radiation. Conduction happens when two objects of different temperatures have direct
contact. Convection, on the other hand, is heat being transferred via fluids. Radiation is the transfer of
heat by electromagnetic waves.

The most common scenario where I experienced or observed these modes of heat transfer at
the same time is when I ride my bike outdoors in the afternoon with the sun high up. First thing I do is
get my bike which is exposed under the sun, when I sit on the bike I feel that the seat is warm, that is
Conduction where there is direct contact between the warm seat and my butt. Once I ride my bike and
go really fast I can feel the exhilarating cool air, this is where Convection happens where heat carried by
the air away from the body and that’s why I feel refreshed. And lastly when I go slowly, I feel the heat
from the sun and that is when Radiation happens, the sun emits EM waves that transfers the heat via
radiation.
