Joss expressed in terms of the average‘Step 1: Connect the 1” nipple to the
branch line using the NPT/BSPT
tapered threads of the nipple.
Figure 1. Apply anon hardening
pipe joint compound or Teflon tape to
the NPT/BSPT male threads of the
nipple. Tighten firmly with pipe
wrench for leak proof connection,
(Torque 99-95N.m)
Step 2: Connect sprinkler hose to
nipple. Figure 2.
Do not use joint compound or Teflon
‘tape on the fine PF threads of the
nipple. ‘The nut on the end of the
flexible tube contains a gasket which
provides the leak proof connection.
‘The connection is designed so that the
gasket achieves the proper amount of
compression by tightening the nut(nut
torque 20N.m.) until the end of fine
thread on the nipple, as the thread is
limited thread.
Step 3: Attach the side brackets to the
rails of the suspended ceiling and the
square bar using the setscrews.
(Gorque 3Nm.)
Step 4: Attach the reducer to the square
tube using the center bracket. The
reducer can be adjusted vertically by
raising or lowering the reducer and
center bracket can be adjusted from side
to side before tightening the bracket
setscrews. (Torque is 4Nm.)
Step 5: Connect sprinkler head to
reducer. Apply a nonhardening pipe
joint compound or Teflon tape to the
male threads of the sprinkler head
‘and connect with nut to the reducer
according to the sprinkler head
~ manufacturer's instructions, using
a special wrench supplied by the head
manufacturer. Figure 3.
After installation is completed, test
the sprinkler system for leaks pursuant
to NFPA Guidelines.
