Art in Today’s Society
Soul-making, Art Fusion, Transcreation

Activity 1
1. In not more than ten sentences, discuss soul-making and art fusion. Give one famous example of art fusion.
Expound on why art fusion is valuable to society.

Within the dialect that alludes to all exercises concerning person expression through the arts, is the more
profound preparation known as “soul- making.” The soul here alludes to the individual’s psyche. “It is this
movement of working through crumbling that is considered to be at the center of the creative and helpful forms.
This act is called “poesis” (taking after Heidegger’s utilize of the Greek word for verse), and consider it to be at
the center of human presence. These creative activities can be best portrayed as a passing and resurrection of the
soul or what James Hillman calls “soul-making. While art fusion is a combination of an item of industry and
commercialism. It happens when a craftsman of any art form collaborates with a brand/company (an item,
benefit, design, charity) to make a product that will advantage the craftsman, the company and society as a
whole.

For example, collaborations date back as far as the 1930′s. Fine artists and fashion designers were the first to
engage in this new breed of partnership – the first high profile union being Salvatore Dali and Elsa Schiaparelli
in 1933. Andy Warhol and Yves Saint Laurent collaborated in the 1960′s and recently, the idea has gained the
momentum of a movement with many different types of artists collaborating with many different types of
brands. For examples we find inspiring, please subscribe to our blog. We post stimulating examples
regularly.Unlike most traditional marketing, art fusion aims to, and often succeeds at producing something of
value to society. It gives voice to artists, breathes life into brands and infuses our everyday lives with
interesting ideas, guts and beauty that nourish our deeper sense of longing.

2.B. Explain how each of the transcreation processes was done. Was it successful in getting the message across the
audience?

 Music to text
Music to text Transcreation Music as a language on its own, refers to text discourse and other art
forms. The context used in music is also to be translated.

 Text to dance

cognition levels. Work across formats and platforms. With this research and a full creative brief in hand,
our professionals develop all of the materials needed to support the product or service, including powerful
content, slogans, taglines, campaigns, and advertising, along with supporting print and online materials.
Also develop visuals, storylines, links, and examples that will resonate with the target audience.

 Dance to visual art

Choreographies that use space in unconventional ways, in these instances by opening the theater to the
outside, not only make the architecture stutter, they cause all those contained within it to stutter too.
Following philosopher and scholar Elizabeth Grosz, these dances ask: “What is it to open up architecture to
thought, to force, to life, to the outside?”In these choreographies, the partnership between dance and the
visual arts renders visible energetic forces that bodies and environments possess, highlighting the
transformative capacities of each.

 Text to theatre
Interaction in-role, where students live through experiences, provides educational potential in the field
of text understanding. Another conclusion is that the participants in this kind of activity put considerable
joint effort into making ensemble text understanding more explicit. A third conclusion is that the artistic
shaping of a drama character, related to transitions of text understanding, unfolds in rehearsal interaction
through embedded layers of communicative projects. A fourth conclusion is that expanded action
possibilities can be understood in terms of pyrazinamide as fantasy-based experiencing-as-struggle. Ergo,
we now know more about how transitions of text understanding take place through interaction in the
process of transforming drama text to stage text.

 Theatre to cinema
Generally, film adaptations of drama do not follow the principles of translation. There are too many
differences between the original and the film version for the term "translation" to be applicable. However,
there are a few cases where it can be said that a film actually translates a play.

Art in Today’s Society
Hybrid Art forms and Appropriation

Activity 2
. “Art is not a mirror to hold up to society, but a hammer with which to shape it.”
– Leon Trotsky

1.A. Relate the quotation of Trotsky to the concept of hybridity in art forms.
A hybrid means something of mixed origin or composition that adds variety or complexity to a system.
In art forms, hybridity could mean the blurring of traditional distinct boundaries between artistic media such
as painting, sculpture, film, performance, architecture, and dance. While to keep his in mind, quotes have
meaning and yet it can also be expressed in the arts and in the artist mind to remember or to hold something
dear and to share to mankind. I like Leon Trotsky quote because it reminds me to never hold back and to break
the image before me and shape it to something beautiful.

Look closely on this image. Answer the following questions.

1. What elements of the image are appropriated?

Appropriation refers to the act of borrowing or reusing existing elements within a new work.
Images and elements of culture that have been appropriated commonly involve famous and recognizable
works of art, well known literature, and easily accessible images from the media. The elements of the image are
appropriated here is The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci.

2.  Can you identify the source of the appropriated image?

Yes. It was easy to identify especially that i am really familiar with the image.
3. What do you think is the artist trying to convey in this appropriated work?
US-based photographer Freddy Fabris had always wanted to pay homage to the famous paintings of
Renaissance masters with his photos in some way, but he wasn’t sure how until he stumbled upon an auto-
mechanic shop in the Midwest. This led to a brilliant photo series of portraits with auto mechanics reenacting
famous Renaissance paintings. “Translating painting into portrait photography was a challenge I looked forward
to,” Fabris wrote on HuffPost. “I wanted to respect the look and feel of the original oil paintings, but needed to
come up with a conceptual photo idea that would create a new layer to the original.”

4. How does the source and the transformation of the appropriated image help create meaning for this artwork?

Some common sources of appropriated images are works of art from the distant or recent past, historical
documents, media (film and television), or consumer culture (advertisements or products). Sometimes the
source is unknown, but it may have personal associations for the artist. The source of an appropriated image or
object can be politically charged, symbolic, ambiguous, or can push the limits of imagery deemed acceptable
for art.
