What is Chlorine Dioxide?

– Chlorine dioxide is a synthetic gas that does not occur naturally, it is obtained
by reacting sodium chlorite with an acid (we usually use hydrochloric acid at
4%, although citric acid at 50% used to be used in the past).

– It is a very simple molecule composed of two oxygen atoms and one chlorine
atom.

– It is extremely soluble in water and does not create chemical bonds, i.e. the
gas dissolves completely in water. When dissolved, it gives a yellowish-
greenish colour and a chlorine-like odour.

– To this day, it is the best-known water purifier as it eliminates bacteria,

viruses, fungi and (small) parasites. In a very high pH range.

– It is used in the food industry to purify food.

– It is also used to disinfect surgical instruments, even in Madrid to clean

SAMU ambulances.

– It is also used to disinfect and store blood in blood banks, being mandatory
by law.

– As you know, many people criticise us, either intentionally lying or out of
sheer ignorance. Most of the detractors are very misinformed and attack us
saying things like "How can you give bleach to people?

– Sodium chlorite is not bleach (sodium hypochlorite), in the same way that
water (H2O) is not hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), so let us speak clearly.
