Estragon: It is the French word for ‘Tarragon’, which is a leaf that gives flavor to food
"aromatic leaves long used to flavor (particularly vinegar)"1. Also known as “Gogo”, which
could possibly mean suggest the unconscious mind, “wanting to go”.

Vladimir: It is a Russian name but used in most Slavic countries and it means ‘a prince’ or
‘ruler of peace’2. It also means being great or famous. Also known as “Didi”, which is a
French word for ‘Dlt’ which is someone who “speaks a lot” or has a conscious mind.

Pozzo: It is an Italian word that means ‘well’, a well which water, oil, or natural gas can be
obtained from, may indicate depth and danger. 3Also, ‘put so’ could possibly suggest having
power as in ‘to put something in a particular place/way’.

Lucky: It is a common English word used to describe someone who is blessed, fortunate, or
simply "a person who has luck"4, however, it’s ironic since this character in the play
possesses no luck at all.

Godot: It is a French word derived from a 'Godillot,' which means military boots5. 'God of'
can mean anything or nothing, as it sounds like this. It could also reflect the meaning or the
essence of life or waiting for someone.
