Protein:
Chemically, protein is composed of amino acids, which are organic
compounds made of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen or sulfur. Amino acids are
the building blocks of proteins, and proteins are the building blocks of muscle mass,
according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Protein Structure:
Proteins are linear polymers built of monomer units called amino acids. The
function of a protein is directly dependent on its three dimensional structure.
Remarkably, proteins spontaneously fold up into three-dimensional structures that
are determined by the sequence of amino acids in the protein polymer.

Protein Denaturation:
Denaturation involves the breaking of many of the weak linkages, or bonds
(e.g., hydrogen bonds), within a protein molecule that are responsible for the highly
ordered structure of the protein in its natural (native) state. Denatured proteins have
a looser, more random structure; most are insoluble.
If a protein loses its shape, it ceases to perform that function. The process that
causes a protein to lose its shape is known as denaturation. Denaturation is usually
caused by external stress on the protein, such as solvents, inorganic salts, exposure
to acids or bases, and by heat.
