STATISTICAL ANALYSIS

READ AND ANALYZE THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS COMPLETELY AND TEST THE
HYPOTHESIS USING THE SIX STEPS METHOD.
1. A cigarette manufacturer claims that the average nicotine content of their cigarette does not exceed 3.4
mg. A random sample of 10 cigarettes was taken and found out to have an average nicotine content of
4.5 mg. With a standard deviation of 1.5 mg. Will you going to accept the manufacturer’s claim at 0.01
level of significance? (assume normal distribution)

2. We have the potato yield from 12 different farms. Given that that the standard potato yield for the given
variety is µ=20.

Test if the potato yield from these farms is significantly better than the standard yield.

3. A college offers courses in History in either Filipino or English. Students claim that those who
take the course in Filipino obtain higher average rating. The following are the results of the study
conducted: (assume normal distribution)
INSTRUCTIO MEAN s n
N
English 86 3 45
Filipino 89 5 50

VERIFY THE STUDENTS’ CLAIM IF THEY ARE 95% CONFIDENT ABOUT IT.
(Assume Normal Distribution)

4. A certain livelihood program was given to 5 farmers to enhance their income. The data were
recorded before and after the implementation as shown below: assume normal distribution
BEFORE IMPLEMENTATION AFTER IMPLEMENTATION
Php 4,000 Php 5,500
8.500 8,200
9, 000 11, 000
6,000 8, 500
5, 000 7, 200

Test whether the change in income was significant at .05 level of significance- Two Paired Test
