What does it mean to be free?

What does it mean to be free? Does it mean that you have your money and you can go to buy
whatever you want? Or just because you are single and you can do whatever you want? I think
that for a lot of people that is what it mean freedom, the fact that they are on their own, without
mother or father to pay for them or to cook for them. I can not say that is not true, because it is,
until now we was helped by our parents and from now we have just to handle it but I think that
freedom can be more than that, not just a physical freedom, also an inner freedom, an inner
release, from our self.
I read about a man who was at a Circus and there he saw an elephant who had a rope tied to
him and the man asked the Circus manager why he just break the rope because he can, he is
one of the smartest animal in the world and have the necessary strength to do that. The
manager said: “He had that rope tied to him from when he was a baby, and he tried and tried
until he gives up because he was thinking in that way is supposed to be and never tried again.”
Also like the elephant, we are learned that we can not do more than we are told we can, even if
we have the necessary strenght to do that and we are smartest enough to do it. For example,
somebody told you that you can not be a IT programmer, you are not smart enough, just take an
normal job, and you believe him, you do it and look in yourself, you remaind with the idea you
just can’t, because that was told you.
So, what is truly mean to be free? If you want to be free you have to release yourself, to believe
in you, and if you failed, this is not the end of the world, you have to trie and trie until you
succeed, do not let others to control you, you control yourself.
