Pain management is a science branch that uses the interrelationships between different
medicine branches to ease suffering and improve the health condition of patients in chronic pain.
It involves proper diagnosis, prescription, and even proper monitoring to ensure total pain
Effective pain management is key to patient recovery as it determines the rate at which
patients recover. Pain relief is considered a patient right by the World Health Organization.
Proper pain relief not only leads to patient satisfaction but also reduced hospital costs as well as
faster recovery.
Pain diagnosis. The first step to proper pain management is proper diagnosis. This is where a
health care provider carefully assesses a patient to determine the location, cause, frequency,
intensity, and triggers of the pain. The doctor also assesses how the pain is affecting the daily
activities of a patient. Pain is usually subjective hence; the patient experiencing it can only
properly explain it. Doctors need to employ concentration when examining the patient to make a
proper and accurate diagnosis. Several tests including blood tests, electromyography, imaging
tests, and urine tests conducted to ensure an accurate diagnosis. ("Chronic pain," 2021)
After proper diagnosis, doctors proceed to treat the causes and triggers of the pain to alleviate
the pain. Depending on the cause, location, and effects of the pain to the patient, there are
various ways of pain treatment. Doctors not only consider the cost-effective method but also one
which is most appropriate if the patient has allergic reactions. The types of medications used in
pain treatment include use of sedatives, muscle relaxers, antidepressants, opioids, and
corticosteroids.

In conclusion, proper pain management is important as it not only leads to patient satisfaction
but also ensures quick recovery. Doctors should ensure they employ the most appropriate
treatment procedures.
