Problem (1)
An 5-kg object moves around a circular track of a radius of 18 cm with a constant speed
of 6 m/s. Find
(a) The magnitude and direction of the acceleration of the object.
(b) The net force acting upon the object causing this acceleration.
Solution:

v2 6 2 ¿ 50 m
a) a c = ac =
r 0.18 m s2
v2
b) F net=m =5 ( 50 )=250 N
r
Problem (2)
In a merry-go-round moves with a speed of 3 m/s, a 25-kg child sitting 3 m from its
center. Calculate
(a) The centripetal acceleration of the child
(b) The net horizontal force acted upon the child
(c) Compare the above force with the child's weight
Solution:

v2 32 m
a) a c = ac = =3 2
r 3 s
b) F net=ma c =25 (3 )=75 N
F net 7
c) = =0.3
W 25 ( 10 )

Problem (3)
A cyclist moves around a circular path of a radius of 50 m with a speed of 10 m/s.
(a) Find the acceleration of the cyclist?
(b) Considering the combined mass of the cyclist and cycle to be 120 kg, what is the net
force applied on them?
Solution:

v 2 102 m
a) a c = = =2 2
r 50 s
b) F net=mac =120 ( 2 ) =240 N
Problem (4)
A race car traveling around a circular path of a radius of 400 m with a speed of 50 m/s.
Find the centripetal acceleration of the car.
Solution:

v 2 502 m
a c= = =6.25 2
r 400 s
Problem (5)
A radially inward constant force of 300 N is exerted on a 2-kg ball as it revolves around
a circle of radius 85 cm. What is the speed of the ball?
Solution:

r Fc 0.85(300)
v=
√ √m
