SAM: Hi! Welcome to the reading club. Why do you want to join the club?

Hi Sam!
thanks for welcoming me to the reading club, the reason why I wanted to join the club was,
because I love reading all types of genres of books and meeting new people.

MIGUEL: What book are you reading now? What is the last book you read?

I am currently reading “The Shining” it’s a classic novel, that I recommend everyone to read.
However, the last book I read was, “before she goes to sleep”, which is a cult favourite.

MICHELLE: What do you prefer, poetry or long stories?

I prefer poetry because I can enjoy a quick short poem about love and emotions, which
doesn’t take a very long time to read. however, sometimes I prefer long stories because I
can focus all my attention on a plot.

PART 2

In this part you will read an email from an authority. You need to respond to the email in
120-150 words, using the notes provided, expressing how you feel about the situation.

Dear Community Member

We are currently assessing the state of the neighbourhood and we would like your input. If
possible, would you kindly email us any and all problems you feel we have to rectify.
We thank you for your patience and continued support.
Kind Regards,
The City Council

NOTES:
• narrow pavement as cars park on it. Any fines for infractions?
• poor lights or no lights on the street. Dangerous. Any cameras?
• traffic signs do not always work or are too small or not bright enough

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing in reference to the email I received to express my concern about our
neighbourhood.
Firstly, the pavement is incredibly narrow as cars park on it, this makes it very hard to walk
on the street without bumping into someone, I would suggest giving out fines for these
infractions.
Secondly, the streets are extremely dangerous as very often there is very little to no light on
the street, I believe that you should install cameras in order to make the streets safer.
Lastly, the traffic signs do not always work and this could potentially be fatal as it could cause
an accident, have you thought about installing new traffic signs?

I hope my suggestions are taken into consideration

Yours truly,

PART 3

In this part you will write an article for a website that is both informative and interesting.
Notes about the topic are provided and you need to use the information to help write the
article. The article needs to be between 180 and 220 words.

“Over the last year there has been an increasing rate of rich people visiting unexplored
remote destinations”
Notes:
- beauty of places
- exciting feelings
- mountains in Canada most visited
- local culture invaded
- damage environment
PLACES DESTINATION VISITORS PER YEAR
Desert Australia 6 000
Jungle Guatemala 50 000
Arctic Antarctica 1 000
Mountain Canada 80 000

Have you thought about the impact of rich people visiting remote destinations? There is no
denying that more and more rich people are travelling to remote and exclusive destinations
for their holidays.

Think tanks have reported that the most popular destination is the Canadian mountains as
they have 80000 visitors per year. Second in the rank is the jungle in Guatemala with 50000
visitors per year, and a perk of visiting this sort of places is that you can experience incredibly
exciting and astonishing feelings walking through the jungle. Third in the rank is the desert in
Australia with 6000 thousand visitors each year. However, a disadvantage of visiting this
place is that very often the local culture is invaded and disrespected by tourists. and last in
the rank is the arctic in Antarctica with 1000 visitors per year. one of the biggest drawbacks
to visiting such a remote destination is that it’s a huge toll on these places as it greatly impacts
and damages the environment.
However, there is no denying that a huge benefit of visiting these places is that they are
incredibly beautiful, stunning and spectacular.

In a nutshell the gist of the matter is that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
