Fluency

I evaluated aspects of fluency Student exhibited in reading the word passages, in three areas:
phrasing, smoothness, and pace. Student A read the passage with little to no expression and did
not noticeably stop at commas or pause at the end of a paragraph. She read in a quiet voice very
quickly at times then pausing for a brief moment at inappropriate times when she seemed to
come to a word she didnt know. Student A sometimes stopped at periods for a brief moment then
continued reading in choppy phrases. Student A was not smooth at transitioning from word to
word. Student A often skipped over easy to read sight words because she was reading so fast. I
recognized that fluency would be one area to address when creating goals.
