My Love of Wattpad (by Ariana Godoy)

Chapter 1 (following)

I had always liked to write. I had a few unfinished stories in my laptop, but I hadn’t had enough bravery to finish them.
Perhaps it was laziness o maybe I thought no one would read them. It took me a few days to decide if wether or not I
would upload the ones to the site, but one night I cheered up and uploaded my first tale. To say I was nervous would have
been an understatement; I was terrified. Then I started to check my mobile every five minutes to see if I had received any
comments or something such it.

After two agony days, the mobile vibrated into my pocket. It was an email from Wattpad: “Your story received a
comment”. My heart stopped. I clicked the link and read: “I love it. You should write more. Upload more, soon!”. I almost
jumped in happiness. Someone had liked my story. Someone had read and enjoyed it. I smiled ear to ear while I was
answering and thanking my first reader her nice comments.

It was how everything started. Those four words hooked me to something I fell in love. I went uploading chapter by chapter
and gaining more followers and making new friends in the process. The most I enjoyed of Wattpad was that it allowed to
meet people from the most remote places in the world. But then something else happened. One night I was lying
comfortably on my bed and reading on my mobile when it vibrated to announce that I had received an email. I opened it.
«Poeta_oscuro001 sent you a message”.

“What a curious username!”, I thought with a smile. I was in a good mood that day. I clicked on the link that took me to
the message in my mailbox and frowned as I read it: “Your story is too feminine, don't you think? It doesn´t seem good to
me. I don´t realize why it is so popular. The argument is not even original.

My finger froze on the mobile screen. My good mood had been gone to the sewer. Those words hurt my soul. I was
devastated. In the two months that I have been on Wattpad, I have never received such a negative message. According to
me, the website promoted a friendly environment, although it was a fact that there was people who didn´t know to be
kind. I entered in the profile of the person who sent me the message and frowned even more.

He was a boy. It was no usual to meet men in this platform. I read his profile silently.
