School District 60 Press Release

Dec. 17, 2021

Re. Proof of Vaccination Policy for Staff

This week, the School District 60 Board of Education decided not to move forward with a proof
of vaccination policy for it’s staff at this time.

This decision was made after a thorough review of the process in Step 1 of the K-12 Sector
Guidelines for Vaccination Policies. The review included an analysis of the following
information:

● Staff self-disclosure survey on vaccination status

● Survey of all school and operational leadership as to staffing levels and impacts
● Several Northern Health reports and presentations on regional vaccination rates leading
up to the week of December 13-17
● BCCDC summary reports on vaccination and case rates for our region
● BC Covid-19 Situation Report for K-12 Schools
● Staff shortage reports from September - December

In addition to the information reviewed, the Board was guided by the following:

● Our schools continue to be low risk settings

● Staff vaccination rates are high
● Replacement staff shortages and capacity among all staffing groups are at a critical level
● Keeping schools open to provide access to public education is a priority

The Board continues to encourage full vaccination for all staff, students and families.

The Board will continue to monitor the effects of the pandemic on the local education system
and be attentive to its evolving nature.
