1. What the significant aspects that teacher should prepare for their teaching? Give your
rational explanation with some related theories to support
2. A. Why the teachers should improve their linguistic competence?
B. How can linguistic competence be useful in teaching performance? Clarify the
relation between the two notions with sufficient theory or previous research
3. Put forward your idea in teaching English skills (you can choose one of the skills) by
describing the step of teaching process
4. How technology can support your teaching? Give your argument in a brief with the
fact

Answer :

1. In teaching the teacher must prepare aspects for teaching so that teaching and learning
activities are planned and run well. aspects of teaching that must be prepared by the
teacher, for example, such as do the reading and problem sets, take notes on the
material, review teacher's notes for the week, make a list of questions to use in class,
make a handout of topics to discuss in class, or review students' questions.

Grossman, Schoenfeld, and Lee (2005) examined the pedagogical content knowledge
of teachers of mathematics and English/language arts, drawing on research and
professional consensus. They provide examples to illustrate the ways teachers use
pedagogical content knowledge in lessons and discuss the implications of the
available research for the curricula of teacher education programs. They particularly
emphasize that prospective teachers should develop the tools to continue their own
learning in the discipline they will teach and that they should be prepared to learn
from experience as they progress in their careers.

Based on the opinion of the researcher above, to be able to teach well, a teacher must
prepare and develop teaching tools in the subjects they teach well as I have given the
example above. In addition, a teacher must be ready to learn from experience and to
deepen their knowledge in order to teach well.

2. A. Why should teachers improve their linguistic competence? because without the
linguistic ability that the teacher understands, the teacher will find it very difficult to
teach language lessons to his students. because linguistics is an important knowledge
and exists in everyday life, therefore students need a good guide taught by the teacher
in order to use it well.

B. It is an important element to discuss the linguistic competence related to teachers’

competence in the teaching and learning process because teachers have to design,
implement, and develop the syllabus. Mowla (2008) stated that teachers should
improve their language skills in order to get well-educated learners who will be
involved in the teaching-learning process. By considering this purpose, thus, EFL
teachers have to be competent linguistically and professionally particularly in the
language they teach.

Hattie (2009) argued that the quality of a teacher is one of the key factors that may
have contributed a lot to the students’ achievement. Thus, as language teachers,
particularly English Foreign Language (EFL) teachers, should have linguistic
competence such as communicative competence including general competencies. The
general competencies can be categorized both in linguistics and language teaching
performance. It is because both linguistic competence and teaching performance have
influenced the process of teaching and learning in language classrooms. It is because
there was a significant difference between teachers’ linguistic competence and their
achievement as language teachers (Majeed, N. T. & Yassein, M. T. 2013). As a
result of the research conducted by these researchers, it is found that EFL teachers
must have well enough linguistic competence.

3. Some of the skills in English lessons include reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
speaking is one of the English skills taught by the teacher in the classroom.

“Speaking” is “the process of constructing and sharing meaning through the use of
verbal and non-verbal symbols, in various contexts (Chaney, 1998:13). “Speaking is
an important part of the process of learning and teaching a foreign language as a
second language. Although important, over the years, teaching speaking "speaking"
has not become an important thing and English teachers continue to teach speaking
only as repetition of exercises or memorizing dialogues. However, today's world
requires that the aim of teaching speaking should be to improve students'
communicative abilities, because, only in that way, students can express themselves
and learn how to follow appropriate social and cultural rules in every communication.
In order to teach second language learners how to speak in the best possible way,
some activities that can improve speaking skills are listed below and can be
implemented immediately in the classroom. For this reason, teachers must create a
classroom environment where students have real-life communication, authentic
activities, and meaningful assignments that improve speaking skills in English. This
can happen when students collaborate in groups to achieve an indicator or complete a
task. The examples of effective english speaking teaching techniques;

a. Discussion
Students can discuss to a conclusion, share ideas about an event, or find solutions in
their discussion groups.

b. Role Play
In the "Role-Play" activity, the teacher provides information to students or students as
to who they are and what they think or feel. Thus, the teacher can tell students that
"You are Ariel, you went to the doctor and told him what happened last night, and ..."
(Harmer, 1984)

c. Simulation
Simulations are very similar to role playing games, but what makes simulations
different from role plays is that they are more complicated. In the simulation, students
can bring items to class to create a realistic environment.
According to Harmer (1984) shows, Simulation increases students' confidence,
because in role playing and simulation activities, they will have different roles and do
not need to speak for themselves, which means they do not have to take the same
responsibility.

d. Brainstorming
On a certain topic, students can generate ideas in a limited time. A good characteristic
of brainstorming is that students are not criticized for their ideas so students will be
open to sharing new ideas.

e. Story Telling
Story telling fosters creative thinking. It also helps students express ideas in initial,
developmental, and final forms, including the characters and settings a story should
have. Students can also tell riddles or jokes.

f. Interview (Interview)
Students can conduct interviews on selected topics with a variety of people. Teachers
give rubrics to students so they know what types of questions they can ask or what
paths to follow, but students must prepare their own interview questions. Conducting
interviews with people gives students the opportunity to practice their speaking skills.

g. Story Completion
This technique is a fun, class-wide, free-talking activity in which students sit in a
circle. For this activity, the teacher starts telling stories, but after a few sentences she
stops telling stories. Then, each student starts to continue from the point where he
previously stopped. Each student must add 4-10 sentences. Students can add new
characters, events, descriptions and so on.

h. Reporting
Before coming to class, students are asked to read a newspaper or magazine and in
class, they report to their friends what they find to be the most interesting news.

4. Technology has really helped my teaching and learning process in class because there
are currently many online learning applications that have been created to facilitate the
learning process, as well as helping the learning process in class while studying online
lectures since this pandemic period. for example google meet, google classroom,
zoom, and ect.

Technology helps a lot and has been proven to simplify the teaching and learning
process because everything can be done at home, more space and time efficient, more
efficient and only uses cellphone or laptop facilities, everyone can access knowledge
and no need to travel long distances to learn English lessons or courses. Even on
social media like Instagram, Facebook, and twitter, there are a lot of accounts about
online English learning for example @english_learning_everyday, @englishcool.id,
@gurukuMr.D, @sacha_stevenson, and more other apps like Ruangguru, Zenius,
Kelas Pintar. It is not only simplifies the teaching and learning process but also
facilitates the collection of research data, in various fields.
