2. Four Criteria for assessing IELTS writing ability (4 tiêu chí để chấm IELTS Writing)

2.1 Coherence and Cohesion = How well is your text structures (cách sắp xếp các câu) (1/4)
- Make sure each paragraph has a central idea (Mỗi đoạn có ý cụ thể)
- Use linking words and cohesive devices (Sử dụng từ nối và cấu trúc nối đề chuyển ý cho mạch lạc)

4. Types of sentences -> Using many types of sentences to increase


Grammatical Range and Accuracy score

4.1 Simple sentence (Nên dùng 1 câu đơn – Thường nên đặt ở Introduction)
S1 + V1 + …
Ex 1: I go to my school and pass the exam of mathematics.
Ex 2:The line graph illustrates the average per capital amount of carbon dioxide emissions in
the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal from 1967 to 2007.

4.2 Compound sentence (Nên dùng ít nhất một câu ghép) (Using but, and, so, nor, yet)
S1 + V1 + … , and S2 + V2
Ex 1: I love my cat, and he loves me.

Ex 2: In 1967, the carbon dioxide emissions per person for the Portugal was merely close to
1 metric tonne, and just over 4 tonnes of CO2 emissions was registered for Italy.

Ex 3: I really need to go to work, but I am too sick to drive.

Ex 4: I am counting my calories, yet I really want dessert.

Ex 5: He ran out of money, so he had to stop playing poker.

Ex 6: They got there early, and they got really good seats.

Ex 7: They had no ice cream left at home, nor did they have money to go to the store.

4.3 Complex sentence (Nên dùng nhiều câu phức)


Which, Who, Where, When, Although, Even though, before, after, While, Whilst, Whereas

Ex 1: I am using a laptop, which is very luxury.


Ex 2: The amount of carbon dioxide for Sweden rose relatively rapidly, to just above 10
metric tonnes in 1977, before falling sharply to nearly 5.5 tonnes by 2007.

4.5 Passive sentence
