Question 1: After reading the book and listening to our lectures

for Chapters 12 & 13, what are 2

food recommendations that you can make to people that will help to help support the immune
system. Why did you choose those foods?
According to our lectures for chapters 12 and 13, I recommend sweet potatoes and spinach food
that support the immune system. Sweet potatoes are antioxidants rich in beta-carotene and
vitamin A, which help make skin healthy and may even protect against skin damage from
ultraviolet (UV) rays. Spinach is also an antioxidant, contains essential nutrients like flavonoids,
carotenoids, vitamin C, and vitamin E that help destroy free radicals and keep the body's natural
immune system response.

Question 2:  The current Coronavirus is significantly affecting the older population. After
reading and listening to chapter 17, what recommendations would you make to your
grandparents or any other older adult during this time based on what you have learned in the
chapter. (Things like washing your hands and staying in your house aren't in our chapter. Use
examples from our book that are nutritionally related.)

As the elderly are more prone to Coronavirus, a diet rich in specific vitamins and minerals can
create a wall of immunity. Their everyday diet must include protein, minerals, dietary fiber,
antioxidants, fruits, and vegetables rich in beta-carotene, vitamin C & E, calcium, and even zinc.
They should eat fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, whole grains, and foods from animal sources.
Amla, spirulina, and curcumin are extremely rich in vitamin C and minerals. Broccoli,
mushrooms, and even kale are a few immunity boosters that can include in their diet, and they
will also help boost their memory. Vitamin-E-rich foods are vital for maintaining the overall
health of older adults, including their immunity. Include soaked almonds, peanut butter,
sunflower seeds, and even hazelnuts to get the daily dose of vitamin E. Their food should include
Immunity-boosting herbs such as garlic, ginseng, black cumin, and licorice in the form of tea or
by adding to food. Older adults should always eat at home to reduce their contact rate with other
people and lower their chance of being exposed to COVID-19.
