Anna University was established about 42 years ago on 4 th September 1978 as

unitary type of university.

It offers higher education in Engineering, Technology and allied sciences relevant

to the current and projected needs of the society.

Since December 2001, it has become a large, highly renowned university. The
university is now the affiliating authority for close to 550 engineering colleges in
Tamil Nadu

Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge, it fosters cooperation

between the academic and industrial communities.

Anna University is a member of the Association of Indian Universities, the

Association of Commonwealth Universities and partner of UNESCO. Anna
University with five stars in 2002 is its highest rating.
