How would you evaluate India's foreign policy with any of its South Asian neighbours?

(You can
pick one country). South Asian neighbours include Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, Sri
Lanka, and Maldives

Or

How would you evaluate India's foreign policy with the United States of America in
light of AUKUS, Quad and the recent developments in Afghanistan? Is the US a reliable
partner?

Your essay must deal in a clear and intelligent way with the course readings, class discussions and
concepts. I cannot emphasize enough that inconsistent think pieces (essays with no clear
organisation) fall short of my basic expectation. You will also lose points for copying or replicating
responses from each other. Furthermore, avoid summarising.

Tell me what you know. Start from what you know; Communicate your own insights through a
discussion of the course’s readings. You can use examples, anecdotes and statistics to support your
argument.

Some of the factors that I use to evaluate a think piece include quality, depth, and complexity of the
argument; the use of evidence to support the thesis; the clarity and elegance of the prose.

If realpolitik so demands, it must break old shibboleths and strike new partnerships — wherever
there is convergence of interests. In a surprise, virtual statement on September 15, the heads of
government of Australia, the UK and US announced the formation of a trilateral security pact, to
be known by the acronym, AUKUS. Without naming China, US President Joe Biden announced,
in a press conference, that “in order to deal with rapidly evolving threats,” the US and Britain
would share, with Australia, intelligence and advanced technologies in areas like artificial
intelligence, cyber-warfare, quantum computing and nuclear submarine construction.

India and US are two large democracies following very similar structure of governance and both are
capitalist economies. India converges with US whether its trade, fight against terrorism, piracy. The
reason why India and US relation has taken a turn for better is because of China. Through the Quad
U.S allying itself with India because of its intention to balance against China. But it is spiralling for the
worse because with the Quad China’s rise and viewing Quad as a problem India is spiralling into
insecurity. China is basically converging with India especially in terms of negating or challenging U.
S’s dominance. No, U.S is not a reliable partner because U. S’s relation with Pakistan dates to the
1950s and U.S is still supplying weapons to Pakistan. Even when the S-400 deal was signed between
India and Russia U.S was not happy as U.S and China do not get along. So, there is a balance of
power, in the end each country is looking for their own national interests. What is happening in
Afghanistan right now and how they are responding to the situation might become important for
India if it will be affecting our bilateral relations with Russia, China and the U.S separately
