Materials
One game board and one set of cards per group
Customize your worksheet by:
• Changing the topics on the game board.
• Switching the order of items on the game board.
Set-up (5 minutes)
On the board, write Can you tell me who the most famous sports star in your country is? and Do you know if soccer
is the most popular sport in our country? Have one student stand up. Say to the student, “Ask me one of these
questions.” After the student asks, answer. Then erase the question from the board. Repeat, with another student
asking the other question on the board.
Procedure (25 minutes)
Divide the class into groups of four. Put the second and third page of the worksheets together to make a board. (The
board game is divided on two separate pages.) Give one game board and one set of cards to each group. Have the
students determine who will go first, second, third, and fourth (flip a coin, oldest to youngest, etc.). Students can use
coins or other small objects for their game pieces.
All students place their game pieces on the Start space. The first student closes their eyes and points to the number
grid at the bottom left corner of the game board. This is the number of spaces the student advances his/her game
piece. Then the student chooses a card.
Have the students ask a question about the topic on the game board space using the question word on the card.
Tell them to use indirect questions. Students answer and discuss the question. They can also pair off within their
groups and discuss the question.
Repeat with students taking turns moving their game pieces. The student in each group who arrives at Finish first is
the winner. All students should continue to play until they reach Finish.
Extension (10 minutes)
Continue playing the game until one student in the class makes it to Finish and then back to Start. The first student
in the whole class to do so is the winner.
