FAQ’s on the LTL Program

Can you tell me about the LTL program?

The Landstar LTL program is designed to allow agents to cover shipments that do not require an entire
truck for capacity (typically less than 12’ of trailer). The program is focused solely on specific carriers
that provide Less-than-Truckload service under brokerage agreements. Shipments are coordinated
through the Landstar LTL system for rating, dispatching, track and tracing..

The LTL program works in conjunction with the Landstar billing system, ORBIT. After a load is booked in
the LTL system, a copy of the load flows into ORBIT. Once the shipment has been delivered, the Landstar
agent finalizes the load in ORBIT to initiate billing.

How long does it take to become a LTL agent?

The period in which an agent can gain access to the LTL system varies but typically takes 1-2 business
days after receipt of LTL Certification.

How do I become an LTL agent?

To Request LTL System Access:
1. Send request to LTL services at ltlbus@landstar.com
2. LTL Services will reply back with a link to take the LTL orientation along with instructions.
3. Once orientation is completed, send the LTL certificate to LTL Services.
4. LTL Services will notify Agency Services to create an LTL code.
5. Once the code is created, you will receive an email from logisticstechum@landstar.com
requesting information so that access can be granted.
6. Once this information is received, you will get your LTL access information within 24 hours

Do I have to complete the orientation course all at once?

Typically the course can be completed in 30 minutes. If you have cookies enabled on your computer, the
course will retain your last viewed page.

Access to the LTL system

Each person requesting credentials and access to the LTL system, must complete the LTL Orientation and
submit the LTL certificate to ltlbus@landstar.com.

Do I need to create a new LTL code for each employee?

This is entirely up to your agency. If you are ok with staff seeing each other’s LTL loads, then you only
need one LTL code. If you need more than one code, then you will need to reach out to
agencyservices@landstar.com to have an additional code(s) created.

How do I get trained on the LTL System?

When you receive your username and password from logisticstechum@landstar.com, you will also
receive a link to training videos (also accessible landstaronline.com under Agent Training). These training
videos can be reviewed as many times as needed and have step-by-step PDF versions you can print out
to read at your leisure. Any additional system training needed is provided by Landstar Agent
Development team at agentdevelopment@landstar.com. If you or your staff still needs a one on one
session for a more in depth training regarding LTL operations and systems training, please send an email
to ltlbus@landstar.com to schedule a WebEx session.
What is ORBIT?
Orbit is the billing platform for LTL brokerage shipments. Agents must finalize their LTL loads in Orbit so
that the customer can receive an invoice, the carrier can get paid and the agent can get their
commission. Training videos were developed for training. You can access these videos on
mylandstaragent.com on the eLearn / LTL tab. If additional training is needed, you can reach out to
Agent Development for more training.
