Full interaction vs. Partial Interaction

In Examples 1 and 2 of your class notes, a W200x52 (Fy=350MPa) structural steel section is assumed to
be connected to a 150mm thick concrete slab (f’c=20 MPa) with an effective width of 2,000 mm. Two
scenarios were investigated regarding the connecting shear studs:

1. Full interaction (in Example 1)

2. Partial interaction with an interaction ratio of 74% (Example 2)

a) You are required to determine the composite resistance of the section under both scenarios.

b) Comment on the difference between the capacities of both scenarios. In building design, it is common
to adopt partial interaction. Do your findings to support this proposition?
