PAST SIMPLE

The Use
- To talk about something that happened in the past
- To talk about the way someone felt in the past

The form
S + Vpast + ...
Positive
S +be (was/were) + Adj + ...
S + did not/ didn’t + V + ...
Negative
S + be not + Adj + ...
Did + S + V + ..
Interrogative
Be + S + Adj +..

Notes
- We often use time expressions, like yesterday, last month, two days ago, when I was young.
- Verbs are divided into: irregular and regular verbs.
- The past form for regular verbs → V + d/ed
Example: ▪ cried (cry + ed)
▪ learned (learn + ed)
▪ smiled (smile + d)
- Examples of irregular verbs are attached in this file.

1. We went to Inverness for Rob’s private wedding last week.
2. She was so excited for her holiday but It had to be cancelled because of the pandemic.
3. John didn’t visit her aunt yesterday even though his mother told him so.
4. Her dad was not happy with her final score.
5. I helped Ross do his online English test this morning.
6. Did you invite Matty to my private Halloween party?
7. Were you sad when he left?
