459, Graphite Gasket

In a Gaston County Pump and Kier System
INDUSTRY
Textile

EQUIPMENT
A Gaston County Pump and Kier System in fair condition.

SERVICE
Water 90%, Dyes 10% (Boil out-ammonium hydroxide, liquid caustic
soda acetic acid); 250 F; 275 F; 50 psi.
This Plant dyes textiles in the Gaston County Dye Tanks. The process
involves pumping a water based dye under pressure in a closed loop
system. The fluid is pumped into the Kier dyeing the textiles from the
inside of the spools and then reversed to dye from the outside of the
spools.

PROBLEM
The previous method of using teflon gasket throughout the system was
very unreliable, as the gaskets would fail very often, extruding and
leaking. The problem was the boilout, which would then be flushed with
cold water, which created a thermal cycle.

SOLUTION
Installed Style 459 Graphite Sheet Gasket, 1/l6". Cut gaskets for all
flanges to ANSI dimensions.

PERFORMANCE
Not one of the gaskets has been replaced in almost a year. The
Company has since switched all the applications inhouse to Style 459.

RESULTS -
Not one of the gaskets has been replaced in almost a year. Plant standarized on 459.
