A spectator fans a blue backed deck with the faces towards him and THINKS of one card. Remember, HE fans the cards and HE thinks of one card! The performer removes a_ red backed deck, shows it on both sides and then asks the spectator to remove the selected card from the red deck. This card is turned over and has in big bold letters YOUR CARD on the back! yee ‘Aldo Colonbin’s MAMMA MIA MAGIC Gravch Hills, Califorein (USA) Peter Duffie is a prolific magician who fives in Scotland, I have presented Peter before, through my column, ALDO COLOMBINI AND FRIENDS, in the pages of GENII magazine, I am proud to release the first in a series of Peter's routines through MAMMA MIA MAGIC, and we are very happy that Peter has selected us to release his material for sale in the United States. The following routine combines two principles in achieving it’s end. There is really nothing for you to think about, apart from the presentation, Devise your own patter and you'll have a miracle. With this trick, Peter Duffie has fooled everyone. So let’s get on with it! @ EFFECT: A spectator is given a blue backed deck. He fans the deck with the faces toward him and THINKS of one card. The performer shows a red backed deck and, on the back of the card matching the selected one, is written, in bold letters, the words: YOUR CARD! @ REQUIREMENTS: You will receive a red backed and a blue backed deck ef cards. Both decks have special properties and both serve different purposes, as follows: The BLUE BACKED DECK - This the Audley Walsh’s Mindreader Deck, and consists of one group of 13 cards repeated four times (equalling 52 cards). A Joker is en the face of this deck. The RED BACKED DBCK - This contains all different cards, but the 13 cards at the face of the deck all have “YOUR CARD” written on their backs. These are duplicates of the 13 cards/foree sections in the blue deck. (The letters are written on one half of the cards only so that, as you can see, you will be able to spread the cards to apparently show regular backs.) @ PERFORMANCE: Place the two decks on the table and invite a spectator to assist you in your experiment. Hand him the BLUE deck and ask him to remove the cards from the cardbox. Have him spread through the deck and THINK of any one card that te sees. Once he has done this, tell him to put the cards back into the cardbox and place it to one side. Remove the red deck from the box and hold it face down. Spread the cards between the hands, or ribbon spread it on the table, taking care not to expose the 13 cards at the bottom (or, at least, taking care not to show the words on the back of the cards). IF you keep the cards so that the letters arc AT THE RIGHT of the backs, you have ample space to, apparently, show all the cards with regular backs. Also, take care to show as many regular cards as you can (the cards without Jetters). Do not make a big deal out of this, you are the only one who knows there is something to hide. So, why run if nobody is chasing you? Square the cards, tum the deck face up and spread it across the table. Ask the spectator to name the value ofhis card, then, cithcr you or the spectator, slides out the four cards having that value. Automatically, you know the mentally selected card! THE CARD THAT IS TAKEN FROM THE FRONT (FACE) BLOCK IS THE ONE HE IS THINKING OF! Remember it! ‘Once the four cards have been withdrawn, scoop up the spread and turn the deck face down. Spread the face down deck across the table, ensuring that the cards above the bottom block are spread widely to show as much of the backs as possible. The bottom block is also spread but only marginally. Pick up the four of a kind that were just removed, square the cards fice up and, in so doing, manage to ‘move the mentally selected card to the bottom. Hand the face up packet to the spectator and tell kim that he will eliminate cards. Tell him to deal the top card face down onto the table. He places the next card face up undemeath the packet. He places the next card onto the table, turning it face down, then he places the next card (his selection) face up to the bottom. Finally he deals the next card face down to the table which leaves him with only one card (the selection). At this point the spectator will react but the rest of the audience won’t know why, so you may say, “You look surprised, and WE both know why, don’t we? ... So, for the first time, vill you name the card that you have been thinking of.” And he names the very card that he is holding! Finally, say, “We got there eventually... however, I could have made things a whole lot easier for myself if Thad just looked at the backs of the cards If had dove so, } could hee spotied your card a mite zwcr!” At this, remove the card from the spectator’s grasp and toss it face down onto the table to reveal the vwriting on the back!) TIPS FROM ALDO COLOMBINI @ You may want to climinate the ... elimination! [ mean, ask the spectator to remove the selection from the red backed deck. Then, apparently show all the red backs by spreading the cards as explained and then show “YOUR CARD” on the back of the sclection, It could be more direct. @ Another presentation: Keep the 13 cards at the face of the red backed deck in a memorized order (use your own favorite), Have the card selected in the blue deck as per the original. Take out the red backed deck and spread it on the table, first face down and then face up. Turn your head away and invite the spectator to remove his card, by sliding it out of the spread. Ask him to square the deck and then to cover the selected card with his hand. Turn to face the audience, pick up the deck and spread the cards face up. Localize the missing card (within the first 13 cards of the deck) and name it. Then have the spectator tum over kis card to reveal the words “YOUR CARD” on it. @ like to keep two or three indifferent cards at the face of the red deck so that in the event that the very first card is chosen it will not be at the face. I know, it does not change much, I just feel more confortable that, way.
