When I arrived at Batman TPAO, I was told that I need to do my checkups including lung
tomography, blood analysis, and audiometry test. After I got my results my entrance process has been
completed and I moved to my room inside the facility. The next day, we have taken occupational
health and safety education from the experts. We have been informed about the dangerous situations
we may face during the field. Then we get our helmet, glasses, workwear, and boots. The next day we
went to the laboratory. In the lab, we have conducted pH, salinity, oil-water separation, API gravity,
and filtration analysis tests. The day after, we went to Batıraman Field. Here, Mustafa chief informed
us about the field and gave us general information. He talked about production rate, production
techniques and reservoir information of the field. On the last day of the week, we went to see the ESP
(electrical submersible pump) operation. It was an ESP landing operation and it was successful.

This week started at Batıraman Field. I was with 6 other petroleum engineering students here. We
had the chance to see the different facilities and units this week. We were separated as 2 or 3 interns
for each unit. Firstly, I have seen the AP-2 station. In this station, oils are collected by tankers and
they are pumped to BOTAŞ. These oils are separated from the water by separators and compressed. I
have learned the mechanism and working principle of separator, compressor, glycol units, and other
pieces of equipment here. Later we have taken samples from SRP and PSP wells and send them to the
laboratory. The next day I have seen the 3TP2 station. It was similar to AP2, I also learned about
emission breakers and types of equipment here. The day later we have been together with the
reservoir engineer Artuğ Chief. He taught us about PVT props. I can say that it was like a summary of
reservoir properties lesson. He also took care of the tools and we watched him work. The next day we
went to acid fracturing operation. TPAO took the services of Halliburton and Viking in this operation.
We saw the facilities and discussed with lots of engineers here. An experienced Colombian acid
fracturing engineer invited us to the Halliburton truck and presented us with the operation. He gave us
theoretical information and showed us real-time pressure data. We saw the visuals graphs here and
discussed them. The next days we were at production facilities and I went to the injection department.
We tested wells if they work alright and checked their manifold.

The first day we shot the liquid level in the wells using the echometer with Zeki Chief. The first test
was at the nearest well because we needed to be sure that the system and equipment are alright. We
learned the basic steps of shooting the liquid level. Moreover, we went to a workover tower and
toured the camp with the rig engineer. We had the chance to join the swabbing operation. We are
informed about the well’s history here and discussed the scheme of the well. The next day we were
transferred to the Garzan Field. We met Hayrettin Chief here, he gave us general information about
the Garzan Field. We toured the facility here. Finally were presented about the field here by the
authorized engineer. He also taught us what a production engineer is responsible for.

We went to drilling rig this week. We were glad that we have finally seen a drilling rig at work
because most of us were waiting for this. The rig belongs to Güney Yıldızı. The rig manager showed
us the equipment including drill bits, stabilizers, BOP, mud tank, mud pit shale shaker, nozzle, etc.
We met with the toolpusher he also informed us about the equipment. Later, we sat with the rig
manager and he talked about what they are going to do and what they did. He introduced casing,
tubing scales, formation details for each meter, cementing values, etc. The next day I joined the ESP
removal operation in Garzan field. The operation was conducted at midnight and lasted several hours.
The authorized showed the components of the ESP. I have seen the removal of tubings pump, intake,
protector, and the engine. After the operation, I know how ESP works, where and in which situations
ESP should be preferred. As we come to the end of the week, we made our exit processes and left the
Batman TPAO Region.
