Due to the improvement of living conditions and better medical treatment, life expectancy has
been significantly rising than before in many countries. It seems to cause some issues for the
countries. However, this improvement can also bring great benefits for both the individual and
the society. The following essay will discuss both sides of this trend.

To begin with, longevity has contributed a great amount to the governmental budgets. After
working hard for many years, the individual will enjoy a long retirement. They will use their
savings for travelling, medical treatment, shopping and other activities which they were unable
to fulfill before retirement. In terms of their family, retired individuals are incapable of helping
the busy parents take care of their children. At the same time, they could also share their
valuable lessons and life experiences with the younger generation.

But, as it is said above, this trend leads to some potential problems for the community. Firstly,
in terms of healthcare system, more money and resources would be allocated to take care of
them. The senior citizens are more likely to suffer from medical problems that require more
medical staff and nursing homes to look after them. Additionally, the increasing lifespan could
put pressure on the government such as the social welfare fund or the workforce policy for the
elderly. For example, Japan has the highest percentage of elderly people in the world that
causes financial burden to the country and the issue of lacking workforce in the near future.

In conclusion, the rising life expectancy brings issues to the individual as well as to the society.
However, I consider that the senior citizens should be treasured because of the values which
they created for the community. Thus, from my perspective, the advantages of increasing
human's lifespan outweigh its disadvantages.
