I. HOW  TO  PLAY?  


 
INTRODUCTION  

Before   participating   in   STARTUPPEDIA   ASEAN   Challenge   2016,   you   should   read   the  
official  rules  entirely.  By  registering,  you  unconditionally  agree  to  all  of  the  terms  and  
conditions  of  these  official  rules.  
 
Furthermore,   you   accept   any   and   all   of   the   committee’s   decisions   with   regards   to  
STARTUPPEDIA  ASEAN  Challenge  2016  as  final  and  binding  in  all  respects.  
 
1. STARTUPPEDIA  ASEAN  CHALLENGE  2016  

STARTUPPEDIA  ASEAN  Challenge  2016  is  Fenox  Venture  Capital's  (Fenox  VC)  unique  
startup  competition  to  unleash  creativity  and  attain  ground-­‐breaking  ideas  for  budding  
young  entrepreneurs.  Win  up  to  $50,000  to  kick  start  your  startup!  

Since  2011,  Fenox  VC  has  given  to  more  than  65+  startups  worldwide  help  to  accelerate  
the   pace   of   innovation   and   create   top-­‐end   entrepreneurs   that   ever   invented,   such   as  
Jibo,  Meta,  Genius,  Lark,  TechInAsia,  99.co,  and  HijUp.  
 
2. WHO  CAN  PARTICIPATE?  

This  competition  is  opened  for  all  ASEAN  citizens.  

 
3. TEAM’S  COMPOSITION  

Once  a  team  has  been  registered,  no  modification  in  its  composition  will  be  allowed.  

Each  team  must  consist  of  at  least  2  (two)  persons  and  maximum  of  5  (five)  people.    

There  is  no  limitation  on  team  composition.  Everyone  from  different  countries  can  join  
as  a  team  as  long  as  they  are  ASEAN  citizens.

4. THE  CHALLENGE    

a. Timeline  

  Registration  will  be  opened  from  January  20,  2016  and  closed  on  February  15,  2016.  
Please   note   that   late   submission   will   not   be   considered.   You   may   refer   to   the  
following  schedule:

Step  1:  Online  Registration  
To  register,  participants  must  visit  our  website  and  fill  the  application  form  completely.  

After  the  registration  closed,  the  committee  will  do  pre-­‐screening  for  all  submissions  and  
only  top  30  startups  will  be  selected  for  the  next  round,  virtual  pitch.    
 
Step  2:  Virtual  Pitch  

30  selected  startups  will  be  announced  through  our  website  and  also  will  be  contacted  by  
the  organizers  through  email  on  February  16,  2016  at  11.59  PM  (GMT+7;  Jakarta)  the  latest.

The   team   should   confirm   their   availability   for   virtual   pitching   by   February   17,   2016   the  
latest.  Failure  to  give  confirmation  may  result  on  replacement  by  other  shortlisted  startups.  

Virtual   pitching   will   be   conducted   through   Skype   video   call   on   February   18   -­‐   19,   2016.  
Teams   will   get   confirmation   for   their   virtual   pitch   schedule   respectively   along   with   email  
confirmation.  

The  judges  will  select  10  startups  from  virtual  pitch  to  join  the  next  round,  validation  sprint.  
 
Step  3:  Validation  Sprint  

Top   10   selected   startups   will   join   validation   sprint   on   February   21,   2016,   to   validate   and  
tailor   the   solution   with   Fenox’s   subject   matter   experts.   For   those   who   are   living   outside  
JABODETABEK   and/or   from   ASEAN   countries   outside   Indonesia,   validation   sprint   will   be  
conducted  online.    

Please   note,   all   startups   that   join   validation   sprint   are   automatically   proceeding   to   Final  
Round.  
 
Step  4:  Grand  Final/Demo  Day  

All  Finalists  will  present  their  final  pitch  deck  on  February  23,  2016.  

Each   finalist   team   will   present   their   solution   in   front   of   a   panel   judges   and   audience.   The  
presentation   file   of   the   team   handled   in   will   be   shown   on   a   projector   behind   the   team,  
controllable  via  a  clicker  that  is  handled  to  the  team.  

Each   presentation   will   consist   of   a   10-­‐minute   presentation   by   the   team,   followed   by   5  


minutes   of   Q&A.   The   team   will   be   notified   when   five   minutes   and   one   minute   remains  
during  their  presentation,  For  Q&A  the  team  will  be  notified  when  one  minute  remains.  

Teams   are   allowed   to   watch   other   teams’   presentations   after   they   have   presented  
themselves,  but  not  before.

There   is   only   one   winner   and   one   favorite   winner   (based   on   social   media   vote)   in   this  
competition.  
 
5. JUDGING  CRITERIA  

Below  are  the  judging  criteria  on  all  stages  of  the  competition:  
1. Product  market  fit         (30%)  
2. Market  size  of  the  product       (10%)  
3. Go  to  market  strategy       (15%)    
4. Business  model  and  monetization  plan   (15%)  
5. Expertise  and  abilities  of  the  team     (30%)  
 
6. PRIZES  

The  winner  of  STARTUPPEDIA  ASEAN  Challenge  2016  will  get  a  chance  to  win  USD  50,000  
in   equity   and   opportunity   to   join   our   mentoring   program.   Terms   and   conditions   will   be  
applied.  

Favorite  team  will  also  get  prize  from  the  committee.  


 
 
7. RECAP  OF  TEAM’S  MATERIAL  

STANDARD  PITCH  DECK  FOR  ONLINE  REGISTRATION  AND  VIRTUAL  PITCH:  

Pitch  deck  must  contain  maximum  of  15  pages  (presentation  slides  in  PDF  format).  

The   team   is   free   to   include   any   kind   of   information   or   content   inside   the   Pitch   Deck,   but  
typically   a   regular   pitch   deck   includes:   company/startup   overview,   problem   that   your  
company   addresses,   solution   that   you   are   providing,   product   description,   addressable  
market,   business   model   &   monetization   plan,   competitive   advantage,   competition  
landscape,  team  member  profiles  and  financial  information.

STANDARD  PITCH  DECK  FOR  GRAND  FINAL/DEMO  DAY:  

For   the   grand   final   round/demo   day,   all   teams   must   use   pitch   deck   template   that   has   been  
provided  by  the  committee.  

For  the  grand  final  round/demo  day,  the  committee  will  provide  all  the  necessary  computer  
hardware.  The  teams  are  thus  not  allowed  to  bring  their  own  computer  hardware  for  their  
presentations.  

During   the   presentation,   all   teams   must   only   use   resources   specifically   provided   and  
allowed  by  the  committee  and  may  not  ask  for  any  modification.  
 
 
II. ADDITIONAL  RULES  

Strict   adherence   to   the   rules   below   is   required   during   the   competition.   Failure   to   comply  
with  the  rules  may  ultimately  result  in  disqualification  from  the  competition.  Any  doubts  or  
disputes   will   ultimately   be   cleared   by   the   committees,   who   have   final   authority   in   all  
matters   related   to   the   rules   and   the   competition.   If   clarification   is   needed   on   an   issue  
during  the  competition,  please  send  an  email  to  retno@fenoxvc.com.  Any  communication  
between   the   committee   and   a   team   still   in   the   competition   will   be   revealed   to   all   teams  
simultaneously  through  email.  
 

Appendix  1:  Disqualification  

An  overall  spirit  of  sportsmanship  is  expected  from  all  participants  throughout  the  duration  
of  the  competition.  

Any   violation   of   the   rules   may   result   in   disqualification   of   the   team.   Any   decision   of  
disqualification  is  final.

Appendix  2:  Rights  of  Reproduction  

The   competition   is   organized   by   STARTUPPEDIA   ASEAN   Challenge   2016   official  


committee.   By   registering,   the   participants   agree   to   grant   to   STARTUPPEDIA   ASEAN  
Challenge  2016  official  committee  the  rights  to  use  and  publish  his  or  her  name,  portrait,  
picture,   team's’   presentations   for   advertising   and   promotional   purposes   without   additional  
consideration,   worldwide   and   on   the   social   media   and   website   affiliate   with  
STARTUPPEDIA   and   Fenox   Venture   Capital   without   limitation   of   time.   The   official  
committee  may  also  publish  in  any  media  any  results  of  STARTUPPEDIA  ASEAN  Challenge  
2016  for  a  reasonable  duration.    
 
Appendix  3:  Confidentiality  of  the  Intellectual  Property  

Due   to   the   nature   of   the   competition,   we   are   not   able   to   ask   judges,   reviewers,   staff,   or  
other   audience   members   to   agree   to   sign   nondisclosure   statements.   However   Fenox  
Venture   Capital   and   SPAC   committee   makes   every   effort   to   limit   the   distribution   of  
business  plans  to  only  the  invited  judges  of  the  competition.  

 
Appendix  4:  References  

Teams  are  allowed  to  use  all  reference  materials  including  textbooks,  online  sources  or  any  
miscellaneous   to   create   pitch   deck.   This   includes   non-­‐public   reference   material   obtained  
through  any  sources  when  properly  referenced  in  the  slides.
