Canine skin infection cases were subjected for detailed clinical examination (Hb, PCV, TEC, TLC,
Serum biochemistry) and later specific diagnostic procedures to confirm the skin disease. Based
on the diagnosis, dogs were allotted to different treatment groups; Group I-Demodicosis
(n=12), Group II- Malasseziosis (n=12), Group III- Pyoderma (n=12), Group IV- Pyotraumatic
dermatitis (n=12) and Group V- Mixed infection (n=12). Groups were again subdivided as
conventional (n=6) treatment and herbal treatment (n=6) (Newcharm topical gel & Charmaid
capsule (M/s Ayurvet Limited) for 0-14 days) groups. The therapeutic efficacy was evaluated for
28 days. Results revealed that 100% cases of pyoderma and pyotraumatic dermatitis showed
complete recovery on topical application of Newcharm skin gel. Demodicosis clinical signs in the
herbal therapy group resolved on day 14-16 in all the six dogs but the scrapings and hair pluck
were found to be positive in 2 dogs. Clinical signs for malasseziosis and mixed infection resolved
after treatment. In cases of Demodicosis, Malasseziosis and Mixed infection, Newcharm topical
skin gel and Charmaid capsule 1-2/day (1/<10kgBwt &2/>10kgwt) along with conventional
therapy was found to be 100 % effective.
