3 Scope of the study

With a decade since its inception, India's commodities markets have risen to global standards
and have become one of the world's top exchanges. The Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX)
just surpassed the New York Stock Exchange as the world's No. 1 exchange for gold and silver
futures, No. 2 for copper and natural gas futures, and No. 3 for crude oil futures contracts. This
demonstrates the success of Indian commodity markets, as well as the bright future prospects
for commodities markets.

By re-establishing its steel futures and launching India's first Gold – Hedge contract, NCDEX
has benchmarked in agricultural commodities, aiming for newer non–farm futures. All of this
ensures that new investors may enter the commodities market, which offers ever-increasing
trading and investment opportunities. Aside from that, the investor may count on a slew of
advantages from investing in various commodities markets. The well-organized and strictly
regulated environment of the Indian commodity markets has aided in the formation of a
controlled and structured platform, making it more beneficial for commodity market investors.
Tamil Nadu's Chennai District is a financially active district, serving as a hub for the poultry,
rig, and transportation industries. Aside from the industrial richness, the state has a huge
number of educational institutions. Agriculture is the district's major source of income, with
food crops accounting for 90% of the farmed land. It is a suitable region to perform the
commodities market research since it is a major district with both commodity production
through agriculture and active financial money flows. The Chennai District provides a forum
for the research and analysis of commodities market awareness among individuals of various
professions, financial condition, educational qualifications, and community affiliations. The
study's findings and recommendations have a lot of potential for helping to enhance the Indian
economy.

1.4 Objectives of the study

The goal of the study is to determine how well people from various socioeconomic backgrounds
in Chennai District understand the operations and services of commodity markets, as well as
to examine their preferences in commodity markets. The following is a list of the study's
specific goals:

1. Investigate how commodities markets work and what they do.
