I. Finish the second sentence so that it means the same as the first one. (5pts)

II.Finish each second sentence so that it has similar meaning to the first sentence, using the
words given in the brackets. (5 pts)
6. If it rains, they will hold the concert indoors. (event)
-> The concert will be held in doors in the event of the rain.
7. She was delighted with her new car (Pink)
-> She was tickled pink with her new car.
8. The sail director told his staff nothing about the new marketing post. (dark)
->The sail director kept his staff in the dark about the new marketing post
9. She wasn’t speaking seriously (tongue)
-> She was speaking with her tongue in her cheek
10. You don’t take on more than one can handle (chew)
-> I don’t bite off more than you can you can chew
Question II:Essay (20 pts)
Marking scheme: The impression mark should be based on the following scheme:
1.Format: 4 pts ( coherence , cohesion , style )
The argument should have 3 parts
a. Introduction: should be put in one paragraph in which students’ points of view are expressed
clearly
b. Body: should consist of from one to three paragraphs. Each paragraph must have a topic
sentence, reasonings and examples.
c. Conclusion (summary of the main reasons, students’ comment)
2. Content : 10pts
a provision of main ideas and details as appropriate to support the argument.

- Students can totally agree/ disagree or partly agree
- Students can give their opinion right in the introduction or discuss the issue and give his or her
own opinion in the conclusion. .
3. Language : 6pts ( grammatical accuracy , wide range of vocabula
