Delgado Semester: Fall 2021 Date: December 2, 2021 ‘School: Arlene Bitely Elementary District: Garvey SD Grade Level(s): TK/K/1 Please include the following areas to support your recommendation: a) Abrief description of the school and classroom setting: During Margarita’s fall semester of student teaching, she is also contracted with the Garvey school district as an Intern. She is serving students ina self-contained classroom setting with grade levels (TK/K/1), and with two instructional aides. Margarita is teaching and planning for students who have IPEs and are moderate to severe with their educational needs. Through her Go React videos, she targeted English language arts and mathematics. (BJO) Margarita Santana Delgado works for the Garvey School District in a Special Day Class at Arlene Bitely Elementary School. Her class consists of nine moderate to severe students (TK, k, & 1st), with various diagnoses, such as Autism, Intellectual Disabilities and Speech & Language Impairments. Some of her students are very strong willed, and need lots of attention and support. (AGJ) b) Performance and growth during student teaching As evidenced by the Go React videos and my collaboration (FaceTime) meetings with Margarita, she was struggling balancing the requirements of her program and those of the Internship (job). Through coaching, she focused on identified areas (feedback on Go React and Taskstream reports) and thusly demonstrated improvement in critical areas for her teaching and learning practicum: planning based on students’ needs and learning target; planning with the support role of the instructional aide in mind; scaffolding instruction time soit is student centered and positive based. Through coaching, TPEs 1/2/4/5/10 were the main focus for her six formal observations. (BJO) Margarita is making progress towards becoming an effective teacher. She has implemented a behavior support plan and techniques are being used to help encourage every student to focus and stay on task, She is making progress toward leaming behavior management techniques, collaborating with service providers, grade level staff and paraeducators. She is showing growth and progressin all of the TPE’s. She is learning the school policies and procedures through staff meetings and staff development workshops. Her colleagues are available for weekly grade level meetings. She is building positive relationships with parents, service providers and students. Sheis communicating with paraeducators, letting them know what's expected of them. (AJ) ) Areas of special competence Not at this time. (BJO) ‘Teacher Margarita develops wonderful standard based lessons and has begun assessing the students as she teaches. (AGJ) d) Additional comments Margarita shared that she meets bi-weekly with her site support provider for weekly Planning and IEPs. | hope this support continues. Although student teaching will conclude, | strongly recommend that Margarita continues to plan and reflect with the 1-13 TPEs in mind. a pleasure supporting and coaching you this semester and I wish you much success. | meet with Teacher Margarita two or three times a week. Because being a new teacher comes with many challenges. Such as not enough support, classroom management and discipline problems. It takes a special individual to teach, love, and nurture special needs. students in the first year of teaching. Teacher Margarita is that special individual. She is determined and willing to face all of the challenges that come with the job. She is dedicated to learning how to be a leader, how to manage paraeducators, while learning how to teach and manage the behaviors of the stucients. She is on her way to becoming an effective/excellent teacher. She is diligent, reliable and creative. Although her class will conclude, | will continue to support her until she is confident in her skills and abilities.
