Taking a Tour

Are you ready for a trip across the United States? As you travel, trace your route and label
your stops on the map above. Bon voyage!

1. You start your journey on the West Coast where the giant redwood trees grow. Label the
West Coast on the map.
2. Travel east over the rugged mountains of California, and over the desert to the Rocky
Mountains. Draw and label both mountain chains on the map.
3. Continue east over grasslands covered with buffalo and prairie dogs to the great river
called the Mississippi. Label the river and its two branches, the Missouri River which flows
from the west, and the Ohio River from the east.
4. Still traveling east over thick forests, find the ancient Appalachian Mountains. Label this
mountain chain on the map.
5. Go east and you should be on the Atlantic Coast. Label it.

Thinking Cap Question! Turn your map into a picture map of the
nation. Add redwoods, cactus, grasslands, and forests where they
grow. You can also add animals, such as buffalo, grizzly bears,
