Replacing Power Units

Danger!
Explosion risk!
Overheated batteries can result in highly flammable hydrogen gas in the cabinet that can
cause an explosion. Install the battery temperature sensor(s) according to the
instructions.

Warning!
High energy levels are present in this unit. Improper handling of the unit can lead to short
circuits that can result in serious injury. Exercise care when working with this unit.

Warning!
Improper handling of batteries can cause them to short-circuit, which can result in serious
injury due to high energy levels. Exercise the necessary care when working with batteries.
Remove any items that can cause short circuits, such as, rings and bracelets.

Caution!
Excessive heat can cause battery casings to soften and warp, potentially allowing acid to
escape. Acid can cause injury when in contact with the skin, and can affect the throat and
lungs if inhaled. Use protective equipment when replacing batteries.

3 Replace Lithium-Ion Battery, RBS 6120

This section describes how to replace lithium-ion battery units. For general
guidelines on batteries, see Manage Batteries.

Before replacing batteries, consider the following:

— Install a battery only with the same type or a corresponding type that the
manufacturer recommends.

— The power switch on the battery units must be switched off.

— Use only insulated tools.

Regardless of battery type, the battery shelves must always be placed in the
lower part of the cabinet. The lowest shelf must have a distance of 3U from the
bottom plate, as illustrated.

Danger!
Explosion risk!
Damaged or defective lithium-ion batteries can explode or cause a fire. Do not use
damaged or defective lithium-ion batteries.

Warning!
Switching poles when replacing lithium batteries can result in an explosion that can lead
to injury. Always ensure that lithium batteries are connected to the right poles.

3.1.1.4 Remove PDU 01 06

Do!
This product contains components sensitive to ESD. Use an approved ESD wrist strap,
connected to the product grounding point, to avoid damaging these components.

The lithium-ion batteries are connected to a PCU DC 08. If the power cables from
the battery cables are currently connected to a PDU 01 06, replace it by a PCU DC
08. For more information, see Install a PCU DC 08 on page 51.

Steps

1. Inform the OMC that work is to start on the cabinet. The OMC can then
decide what measures are necessary to minimize service disruptions.

2. Put on the ESD wrist strap and

connect the crocodile clip to the
cabinet.

3.2.3.17 Check Status of Activated Battery Units

Steps

1. For all battery units, make sure

that the optical indicator PACK
STATUS shows solid or flashing
green.
Pack status If the optical indicator shows red,
the battery units are disabled. The
battery might be faulty and must
be troubleshot.

If the optical indicator is blinking

after one minute, there is a
communication failure between
battery units. Verify that the
communication cables between
battery units, and the termination
resistor on the final battery, are
properly installed. Verify that
addresses have been properly
assigned and that all battery units
have been detected by the SCU in
the following ways:

Option Description
Offline Check that the configured capacity in the power system display is
close to the total capacity of the installed battery units.
Online Log into the SCU and verify that the number of BatteryUnit objects
is equal to the installed battery units. In addition, verify that no
alarms of lost battery or power system are raised.

battery units can show different
levels of SOC. They show the same
SOC status during normal
operation.

3.2.3.18 Verify Software Configuration

Required Tools and Equipment

The ESC must have revision R2A or higher.

Steps

1. Check that there are no alarms raised on any of the following MOs:

— BatteryString

— BatteryUnit

— PowerSystem

2. Verify that the number and status of batteries detected by the software is
correct.

9 Replace the AC Interface

This section describes how to remove and install the AC interface. It can be
necessary to remove other equipment in the cabinet to be able to remove the AC
interface parts.

The cabinet does not operate during this procedure, unless it is connected to an
operating battery backup system. If the cabinet is not connected to an operating
battery backup system, it must be taken out of service with help from the OMC
before starting this procedure.

If a reconfiguration of the AC mains types is to be done, see Installing Cabinet.

Stop!
Improper installation or modification of AC or DC powered equipment can seriously
damage the equipment. Only a qualified and authorized electrician is permitted to install
or modify electrical installations.

Warning!
High energy levels are present in this unit. Improper handling of the unit can lead to short
circuits that can result in serious injury. Exercise care when working with this unit.

The AC interface consists of the following parts, including cables and location in
the cabinet, as illustrated in Figure 9:

1. Circuit breaker distribution (including the first variant of the AC mains switch
and circuit breakers)

2. Circuit breaker distribution (including the second variant of the AC mains

switch and circuit breakers)

If PCR switches are available on the replacement PDU, they are to be set in the
same position as on the removed, faulty, PDU or as preferred by the user. When a
switch is set in the upper position, the function is enabled (ON), and when a
switch is set in the lower position it is disabled (OFF), as shown in Figure 12.

Replacing Power Units

17 Replace a PFU

This section describes how to remove and install a Power Filter Unit (PFU) in the
cabinet.

The PFU is located in the power subrack. For more detailed information on where
the units are located, see RBS Description.

Warning!
High energy levels are present in this unit. Improper handling of the unit can lead to short
circuits that can result in serious injury. Exercise care when working with this unit.

17.1 Remove a PFU

Do!
This product contains components sensitive to ESD. Use an approved ESD wrist strap,
connected to the product grounding point, to avoid damaging these components.

Steps

1. Inform the OMC that work is to start on the cabinet. The OMC can then
decide what measures are necessary to minimize service disruptions.

2. Open the cabinet door. Different handles and locking mechanisms are
available.

18 Replace a PSU, RBS 6120

This section describes how to remove and install a Power Supply Unit (PSU) in
the cabinet.

The PSUs are located in the power subrack. For more detailed information on
where the units are located, see RBS Description.

The node may switch itself off during PSU replacement if a redundant PSU is not
installed, or a battery backup system is not used. It is recommended to replace
PSUs during low traffic conditions.

Warning!
High energy levels are present in this unit. Improper handling of the unit can lead to short
circuits that can result in serious injury. Exercise care when working with this unit.

19 Replace an SHU

This section describes how to remove and install a Support Hub Unit (SHU) in the
cabinet.

The SHU is located on the cabinet wall on the right-hand side, as shown in Figure
13.

Note: The speed of the cabinet fans can decrease during replacement of the
SHU. It is therefore likely that units within the cabinet report
temperature alarms. It is recommended to replace the SHU during low
traffic conditions.

Note: To minimize service disturbances caused by reduced cooling, replace the

SHU as quickly as possible. Allow a maximum of 5 minutes for the SHU
replacement.
