HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT (2ND SEM – MODULE 1)

ASSESSMENT NO. 1: Based on your OWN UNDERSTANDING and APPRECIATION of

what you have read, kindly answer the questions below.

1. Why is the HR department playing a more significant role in organizational strategic

planning processes today than it did 20 years ago?
 The HR department is playing a more significant role in organization strategic
planning process today than it did 20 years ago because THE Human Resources
management is strongly promoted and developed human ability accordance with
development of organization for the people to help.

2. Why is it correct to conclude that all managers should be involved in developing and
implementing HRM activities and programs?
 I believe that managers are involved in developing and implementing Human
Resource Management activities and programs in order to manage an organization
effectively. It will enable work to be carried out both within and outside the
organization and attract potential clients. A manager should be a team player to
include every employee in decision making, work and change.

3. How has increased globalization influenced the way HRM is practiced in the Philippines?
 Globalization also has a deep impact on the influenced the way HRM is practiced
in the Philippines. In globalization, the HR department will need to increase
support of its current staff to avoid repeated mistakes in the future. Businesses
tend to have their own corporate cultures or ways of operating, but the local
culture and what's considered acceptable business practice should still be
presented because it is has a big contribution in a firm.

4. Why has the HRM function increased in stature and influence in many organizations?
 The HRM function increased in stature and influence in many organizations
because the human resource function serves to make sure that the company
mission, vision, values or guiding principles, the company metrics, and the factors
that keep the company guided toward success are optimized.

5. In your opinion, which of the HRM functions appears to be the most challenging to
implement? Why?
 For me, LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT is the most challenging to implement
because building a good leader starts within a person. A manager can set a person
to be a leader but he cannot set the attitude of the leader he choose. The leader he
picked will reflect the whole company. That’s why when practicing leadership
development it takes time and it should be taken seriously.
6. What difficulties would an HRM executive face in assessing and then communicating the
contribution of his or her area to the company profit margin?
 HRM executive is having a hard time to measure in dollars and cents (e.g. what
dollar amount can be placed on legal compliance or employee satisfaction?)

7. Why is it necessary for the HRM area to clearly communicate to employees human
resource policies?
 Communicating HR policies within the organization is crucial to meeting the
organization’s strategic, personal development, and legal obligations. Managers
cannot implement or enforce policies or programs unless they understand them.
Likewise, any outside organization that may have influence on the company, such
as the trade unions and government bodies that impose rules and regulations, must
be made aware of the organization’s HRM efforts.
8. Why should even very small firms (with 10 to 100 employees) be concerned about
HRM?
 Even very small firms need to attend to HRM issues, such as recruitment,
retention, health, safety, productivity, and legal compliance, because they have
the same concerns and legal liabilities as larger organizations.
