Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and NITI Aayog organized a Global Virtual
Summit on Artificial Intelligence (AI), RAISE 2020- ‘Responsible AI for Social Empowerment 2020.
The event witnessed participation from global industry leaders, key opinion makers, Government
representatives and academia.

RAISE 2020 (Responsible AI for Social Empowerment): A global meeting of minds to exchange ideas
and chart a course for using AI for social transformation, inclusion and empowerment in areas like

The second edition of Indian Navy (IN) – Bangladesh Navy (BN) Bilateral Exercise Bongosagar was
held in oct 2020 in Northern Bay of Bengal.
Exercise Bongosagar, whose first edition was held in 2019, is aimed at developing interoperability
and joint operational skills through conduct of a wide spectrum of maritime exercises and operations.

5. (a)
The recently inaugurated 9.02 Km long Atal tunnel connects Manali to Lahaul-Spiti valley
throughout the year. Earlier the valley was cut off for about 6 months each year owing to heavy
snowfall. It is horse shoe shaped, single tube double lane highway tunnel (not railway).
The Tunnel is built with ultra-modern specifications in the Pir Panjal range of Himalayas at an
altitude of 3000 Mtrs (10,000 Feet) from the Mean Sea Level (MSL).

The Eighth Schedule to the Constitution consists of the following 22 languages:


(1) Assamese, (2) Bengali, (3) Gujarati, (4) Hindi, (5) Kannada, (6) Kashmiri, (7) Konkani, (8)
Malayalam, (9) Manipuri, (10) Marathi, (11) Nepali, (12) Oriya, (13) Punjabi, (14) Sanskrit, (15)
Sindhi, (16) Tamil, (17) Telugu, (18) Urdu (19) Bodo, (20) Santhali, (21) Maithili and (22) Dogri.

Of these languages, 14 were initially included in the Constitution. Sindhi language was added in 1967.
Thereafter three more languages viz., Konkani, Manipuri and Nepali were included in 1992.
Subsequently Bodo, Dogri, Maithili and Santhali were added in 2004.

As per the RBI Act 1934 (amended 2016), the Central Government shall, in consultation with the
Bank, determine the inflation target in terms of the Consumer Price Index, once in every five years.
Accordingly, the Central Government has notified 4 per cent Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation as
the target for the period from August 5, 2016 to March 31, 2021 with the upper tolerance limit of 6
per cent and the lower tolerance limit of 2 per cent.
As per the Act, the CPI Combined published by the National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of
Statistics and Programme Implementation is used as inflation targeting index.

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2020 has been awarded jointly to Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer
A. Doudna "for the development of a method for genome editing."
Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna have discovered one of gene technology’s sharpest
tools: the CRISPR/Cas9 genetic scissors. Using these, researchers can change the DNA of animals,
plants and microorganisms with extremely high precision.

Day on 7th October, 2020. Now India’s premium Cotton would be known as ‘Kasturi Cotton’ in the

Cotton is one of the principal commercial crops of India: It provides livelihood to about 6.00 million
cotton farmers. India is the 2nd largest cotton producer and the largest consumer of cotton in the
world. India produces about 6.00 Million tons of cotton every year which is about 23% of the world
cotton. India produces about 51% of the total organic cotton production of the world.

Mumbai Port Trust is a port which lies midway on the West coast of India, on the natural deep-

Kandla, officially Deendayal Port Trust is a seaport in Kutch District of Gujarat state in Western India,

of India leaving the port of Karachi in Pakistan.

trade started much earlier in 1639 on the undeveloped shore. It is an artificial and all-weather port
with wet docks.
Jawaharlal Nehru Port [JNPT], also known as Nhava Sheva Port, is the largest container port in India.
Located east of Mumbai in Raigad district, this port on the Arabian Sea is accessed via Thane Creek.
Its common name derives from the names of Nhava and Sheva villages that were situated here. This
port is also the terminal of Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (under construction).

19’s impacts on global poverty and inequality. Harnessing fresh data from frontline surveys and
economic simulations, it shows that pandemic-related job losses and deprivation worldwide are
hitting already-poor and vulnerable people hard, while also partly changing the profile of global
poverty by creating millions of “new poor.”
Global extreme poverty is expected to rise for the first time in 20 years because of the disruption
caused by COVID-19. Around 9.1% to 9.4% of the world will be affected by extreme poverty in 2020.

The country’s first pollinator park with over 40 species of butterflies, honeybees, birds and insects
has been developed over four acres at Haldwani, Uttarakhand.
The objective behind developing the park is to conserve various pollinator species, create awareness
among people in general about the importance of conservation of these species and to promote
further research on various aspects of pollination, including a threat to habitat and impact of
pollution on pollinators.

Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs launched a scheme PM Street Vendor's AtmaNirbhar Nidhi
(PM SVANidhi) to empower Street Vendors by not only extending loans to them, but also for their
holistic development and economic upliftment.
The scheme intends to facilitate collateral free working capital loans of up to INR10,000/- of one-
year tenure to street vendors, to help resume their businesses in the urban areas, including
surrounding peri-urban/rural areas.
The PM SVANidhi scheme offers incentives in the form of:

• interest subsidy at seven percent per annum on regular repayment of loan


• cashback on undertaking prescribed digital transactions
• eligibility for enhanced next tranche of loans

18. (d)
Capital goods are physical assets that a company uses in the production process to manufacture
products and services that consumers will later use. Capital goods include buildings, machinery,
equipment, vehicles, and tools. Capital goods are not finished goods instead; they are used to make
finished goods.
Capital goods are one of the four factors of production. The other three are: Natural resources, such
as land, oil, and water; Labor, such as workers; and Entrepreneurship.

The Fifteenth Finance Commission (XVFC) led by Chairman Sh N K Singh have submitted its Report
for the period 2021-22 to 2025-26 to the President.
Finance Commission is a constitutional body for the purpose of allocation of certain revenue
resources between the Union and the State Governments. It is established under Article 280 of the
Indian Constitution by the Indian President. It is created to define the financial relations between the
Centre and the states.
Article 280 of the Indian Constitution: President after two years of the commencement of Indian
Constitution and thereafter every 5 years, has to constitute a Finance Commission of India.

20. (a)
President of India in exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution
of India appoints the Judges of High Courts in India.
The provisions relating the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) has been struck down
by the Supreme Court vide its order dated the 16th October, 2015 in the Supreme Court Advocates-
on-Record Association and Another Vs. Union of India.

Alcohol for human consumption has been kept outside the purview of GST in India at present. These
goods are subject to existing State levies.

At present, electricity is not subject to GST and power companies pay multiple taxes on capital goods

Ratan Naval Tata is an Indian industrialist, philanthropist, and a former chairman of Tata Sons. He

Motors to acquire Jaguar Land Rover, and Tata Steel to acquire Corus, in an attempt to turn Tata
from a largely India-centrist group into a global business.

A disease is said to be in Community transmission stage when there is no clear source of origin of
the infection in a new person/community. It can no longer be identified who became infected after
being exposed to someone, who interacted with infected people. The source and chain of infections
can no longer be established. Therefore, contact tracing becomes difficult and has limited use in
arresting the spread of disease.

• Herd immunity occurs when a large portion of a community becomes immune to a disease,
making the spread of disease from person to person unlikely. This can happen in two ways:
Many people contract the disease and in time build up an immune response to it (natural
immunity) or many people are vaccinated against the disease to achieve immunity.

Union Cabinet has approved the merger of capital-starved Lakshmi Vilas Bank (LVB) with DBS Bank
India. The Reserve Bank of India on 17 November proposed the merger of the lender with the Indian
arm of Singapore’s DBS Bank.
The 94-year-old LVB will now cease to exist and its equity completely wiped out. Its deposits will now
be on the books of DBS India. Lakshmi Vilas is the second bank to need a rescue this year, and the
third collapse of a major deposit-taking institution in 15 months and the first since the onset of the
coronavirus pandemic.
About DBS Bank: DBS was the first foreign bank to receive a banking license after the central bank
allowed foreign banks to set up a wholly-owned subsidiary in 2014. “With DBS likely to use digital
capabilities to enhance its physical footprint in India, the proposed deal could lead to a 30-40%
increase in Indian assets of DBS.
