2.

4 Period of the study

The study was conducted from October 2021 to November 2021 in order to determine the level
of investor knowledge in the commodities market in the Chennai District of Tamil Nadu. The
study's literature review and conceptual framework took six months to complete. Six months
were spent planning the interview schedule and performing the pilot research. Six months were
spent collecting primary data from commodities market investors. Another three months were
spent analysing and interpreting the data. The remaining three months were spent on
preliminary writing and finalising the thesis.

2.5 Hypotheses tested

In this study, the following hypotheses were formulated and evaluated.

1. Is there a significant relationship between respondents' classification and (a) years of


participation in commodities trading, (b) respondents' experiences, (c) respondents'
understanding of commodities market operations, (d) satisfaction with rate of return, and (e)
factors motivating them to participate in commodities trading or not?

2. Is there a significant difference between I gender, (ii) age, (iii) educational qualification,
(iv) income, and (v) profession in terms of (a) years of participation in commodities trading,
(b) respondents' experiences, (c) understanding of commodities market operations, (d)
satisfaction with rate of return, and (e) factors motivating to participate in commodities trading
or not?

2.6 Formulation of Hypotheses

The following Null Hypotheses (H0) have been framed and evaluated based on the study's
objectives:

a) In the commodities market, there is no substantial variation in the mean ranks for
commodity choice.

b) There is no correlation between investor awareness and contentment with the


commodities market.
