PHASE -1

Projects for Products

• Title: Oral Pressure and Endurance Instrument for Speech

• Principal Investigator and Organization: Dr Ramandeep Kaur/Dr Mahesh

BVM, Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing

• Problem and solution: The present available instrument called as Iowa Oral
Performance Instrument, is partly available (from United States) but this
instrument caters only to the static, non-speech oral pressure measurement.
Also, it provides no jaw strength measurement for static or speech
measurements. Moreover, in the Indian scenario, no indigenous devices cater
to speech or non-speech oral pressure measurement. Hence, there is a need to
develop an indigenous device and check its feasibility in capturing the
dynamic oral pressure.

• Status

(b) Prototype ready – Rough idea for the instrument is as indicated in the
picture

(c)

• Time frame (Justification)

Targets Estimated Time Planned

Design of prototype 2 months

Design of a tentative instrument 6 months
Trial on normal and disordered 6 months
population
Ready for market 4 months
TOTAL: 1.6 years

• Budget (Break up)

Targets Estimated Time Planned

Planning and designing of prototype 25,000

(Engineer cost)
Design of a tentative instrument 60,000

• Expected Outcome: An indigenous and cost-effective device to measure oral

pressure during static and speech related tasks
