Many people believe that primary school students should only observe investigations illustrated

by teachers rather than carry out experiments themselves. In my opinion, I agree with both
sides of view.
In one hand, doing experiments themselves will enhance great understanding of lessons.
Theory and practice is a perfect combination in developing elementary student’s knowing. When
conducting a demonstration, students have to research the content of the lesson at home and
collect data. Therefore, at school, they can absorb information from the lesson faster because of
the advance preparation. Moreover, results from experiments will help students understand
about the essence of lessons fully. In addition, doing experiments increases student’s self-
awareness and laboratory animals will make them feel more interested in learning.
In other hand, elementary students should only watch experiments demonstrated by teachers to
avoid the risks of unexpected accidents. For example, in chemistry or physic class, elementary
students will not have enough knowledge to distinguish dangerous substances. Moreover, in the
laboratory, there are some poisonous chemicals that they cannot touch with their bare hands.
Using wrong chemicals with huge quantity may lead to explosion, skin burns, poisoning or
shockwave, …Therefore, students should carry out experiments to ensure safety for students
and avoid unwanted situations.
In conclusion, doing experiments has many benefits for students, however, teachers should
have detailed guidelines to avoid dangerous accidents.
