Her prison, however, was infiltrated by the god Zeus who appeared to her in the guise of a shower of gold and impregnated her. When Danae's son Perseus was born, Acrisius cast them ina wooden chest and set them afloat at Aegean sea, to the providence of gods. The legend of Danée has been an inspiration to works by many great artists, the most famous being the painting by Rembrandt Van Rijn (1606-1669). Rembrandt captured the moment when Dande is saying farewell to Zeus. The golden glow diffuses throughout the chamber and envelopes Danée's mude silhouette. Her sparkling eyes, smile and hand gesture express a myriad of complex emotions. Rembrandt also adds a dramatic element to the scene, by depicting a mournful Cupid in the headrest, with his hands bound in front of him. His body is illuminated by the golden glow, which fades away inhis wings. Rembrandt's painting, and the legend behind it, has served as inspiration for this musical composition, which nasrates the legend through the elaborate counterpoint of three main motifs: the theme of the Aegean Sca, the song of Danée, and the theme of Zeus. The modal character of the piece, the subtle rhythmic and harmonic modulations and improvisatory elements, along with the deeply felt melodies, colorfully paint the shadows and nuances of the ancient mystery, filled with complex human emotions and passion, Ukrainian-born classical guitarist and composer Arina Burcéva has earned her Master of Music degree in classical guitar performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studied composition and improvisation with Sergio Assad and Dusan Bogdanovic. She maintains a busy concert schedule, performing and teaching masterclasses at the festivals and concert venues in the USA, Canada, Europe and South America. Actively involved in the creation of a new, fresh repertoire for the guitar, Arina has written alarge number of compositions, inspired by nature, visual arts, literature, poetry, mythology and personal experiences. Deeply felt, harmonically rich and well- structured, her music reflects elements of Classical, Romantic, Impressionist and Contemporary styles, and often features narrative elements, aiming to express and evoke particular feelings, emotions and ideas. ““Arina follows the European romantic tradition of program music, intended to express extra-musical ideas.
