Topic: the pros and cons of Physical Education in high school.

In this day and age, the teaching of athletics in high school has been a hotly
debated topic. While some emphasize the benefits of this subject, others regard
it as a perilous form of training for students. This essay will elaborate on both
viewpoints respectively.

On the one hand, it is irrefutable that gym classes have various advantages to
offer. The first upside would be the significant improvement in the mental health
of pupils. Though much effort has been made to lessen the studying stress, the
trend of psychosomatic illnesses is still prevalent in numerous academic
institutions. The introduction of physical education would be a preventative
measure in the deterrence of the worsening of the mentioned phenomenon
regarding the cessation of solid studying and the recharge of energies. In addition,
a myriad of social skills is obtainable during gymnastic lessons. Since the subject is
about cooperation and leadership in itself, students can acquire such vital skills as
teambuilding or self-restraint. These have been indicated to be beneficial to pupils
in terms of the enlargement of friend circles as well as the ground for future job
orientation.

On the other hand, the downside of gymnastics is also evident. Firstly, there exists
many an accident that can arise during the course of a physical education lesson.
Undoubtedly, the lack of teachers’ observation and instruction can increase the
rate of injuries substantially. Although the majority are simply external damages
such as bruises or scars, some can result in complications, including brain
hemorrhage or bone dislocations. Secondly, skin illnesses are commonplace in
developing countries whose schools fail to equip indoor gymnastic facilities. The
costs of such buildings exceed the available budget of most governments around
the globe, leading to students’ direct exposure to the weather. On most occasions
when it is sunny outsides, students are prone to sunburn, and possibly skin cancer
in the long run.

In conclusion, physical education is praiseworthy for the enhancement in both the

mental and social life of high-schoolers. However, it also confronts pupils with the
risk of accidents and an array of diseases.
