ONCE UPON A TIME

All students are required to "Add a new discussion topic" in this forum and share your
understanding and/or interpretation of the lines in the poem below. No need to reply to your
classmates' posts.

1. “I have learned to wear many faces like dresses” (lines 20/21)

The line explains that he learned to wear different personalities depending on the
situation, environment and the people he associated with. The face is compared
to dresses because the dresses and our face are both wore based on the
situation. And this line explains that we act and behaves depending on the
situation we are in.
2. “...laugh in the mirror shows my teeth like a snake’s bare fangs!” (line 39)
The author’s laugh that shows his teeth like a snake’s bare fangs explains that he
laughs or smiles not genuinely and unreal. And it explains that a person who
laughs or smiles not genuinely is like a snake, wherein they are both dangerous.
3. “their left hands search my empty pockets” (lines 11/12)
This explains that people only come to you because they want something from
you. People will only know you if you are financially capable, but they will start to
leave you when they gain no more. And it also explains that some people that
surrounds you are not really genuine, they are only looking into the benefits that
they can get from you.
