Becoming a surgeon is not something many people can do.

It takes a lot of time and hard work to finish

medical school, not to mention that their residency takes about five to seven years, while usually it takes
around three. There are many advantages as well as disadvantages to being in this line of work,
nevertheless, many people choose to do it.

The greatest advantage of working as a surgeon is the satisfaction one gets when one saves a patient’s
life. Along with satisfaction comes the respect they gain, moreover, it is not uncommon for a surgeon to
earn a special status and place in society. There are also great monetary benefits that surgeons have.
They earn some of the biggest wages, and rightly so, they are supposed to make life and death decisions
daily.

However, the road to becoming a surgeon is very long. Not only are education and training lengthy,
somewhere about eleven to sixteen years, but medical school is also very expensive most of the time,
consequently, they end up in debt due to student loans. Furthermore, surgeons spend sometimes up to
between eighty and a hundred hours working in a very stressful environment, which often leads to
burnout and tiredness.

To sum it all up, being a surgeon is a very stressful and tiring job, yet also very gratifying and not
everyone is cut out to be one. To my mind, this job is not for the weak, it is not someone who cannot
handle gory sights and high amounts of stress for this reason, those who do it deserve all the respect.
