An industrial training report should be prepared upon completion of training. The report is a
compiled writing that demonstrates student’s learning and development in technical knowledge,
engineering practices and professional skills through the practical experience. The industrial
training report should also reflect a student’s ability in communicating engineering context such
as design, processes, evaluation and decision making in a clear and concise manner through
technical reports. Students should seek advice from their employers to ensure that no confidential
materials are included in the report. The student should be able to present the report to
prospective employers, as a complement to their degree. Any references made in preparation of
the report should be recognized using standard referencing formats.
Student should refer to the Industrial Training Report Template as given in below on this
document and guideline in preparing the report. The Daily Training Logbook should be
submitted together with the report.
Student needs to properly document their experience and learning during the industrial training
in the form of report. Through this report, the experience gained can be delivered to their peers
and Advisor. A properly prepared report can present their practical experience in an orderly,
precise and interesting manner.
The report has to be prepared according to the format determined by the Faculty based on the
guidelines below.
The report has to be typewritten on white A4 size paper, with 12-point font size, Times New
Roman font type and line spacing of 1.5 throughout the report. The report has to be properly
ring-bound with transparent plastic sheets attached to the front cover. A sample of report
template is available is shown below.
Important Note
The format for the front cover should follow the sample provided below. No changes are
allowed.

Every appendix requires a title and each page need to be numbered accordingly.

Brief and concise description of the company in which the student is undertaking the
industrial training. The main items are:

This section should be a brief description of the time, duration and types of duty carried out
during the training. The description must follow the schedule of the training i.e. in chronological
order (for 16 weeks). The days when the student is not on duty must be properly recorded with
reasons given.
f) Working Experience
In this section, the student must describe the industrial training experience gained.

Student should provide an overall discussion in this section and arrive at a conclusion with

of the letter of permission from the company must be attached in the appendix. Other suggested

All figures, tables and similar contents must be captioned and labeled. Every figure or table must
be mentioned in the main text.
If the report contains notations and symbols, the full definition must be given when each notation
or symbol first appeared in the main text. The list of notations and symbols with the full
definitions can be places after ‘Tables of Contents’.
Every appendix must have a title and be mentioned in the main text where appropriate. All page
numbers for appendixes must be continual from the main text.
Student is strongly advised to commence writing the industrial training report as early as in the
beginning of the training period to ensure a timely completion of the report.

Introduction
In this chapter, the student should write brief and concise description of the company in which
the student is undertaking the industrial training.
You should collect all the information that is relevant to your work while at the company.
No internet pictures or photos will be accepted. Ask for the information if not available.
Take photos of yourself and coworkers and include them in the report. Pictures while
performing your work at the company with other coworkers is a must.

General things to be considered in preparation of this chapter
This chapter should include an introduction to the company; your job description and
duties
Experienced gained or lost during your training; your interaction with your
coworkers and team members; common experiences that helped get the tasks done;
and an introduction to following chapters and sections in your report.
An Industrial Training Report must be divided into chapters. A title must be given to
each chapter which reflects its content.
A new chapter must begin on a new page. A chapter must be further divided into
different sections with appropriate titles numbered accordingly.
The body of the Industrial Training Report must be written in paragraphs. Each
paragraph describes an issue or a subject. There must be continuity or logical flow
between paragraphs.
Long paragraphs should be avoided.
Chapter two
This section should be a brief description of the time, duration and types of duty carried out
during the training. The description must follow the schedule of the training i.e. in chronological
order (for 16 weeks). The days when the student is not on duty must be properly recorded with
reasons given.
Use your notes and daily work summary to write this chapter.
You can start by general introduction to the work you did and then go in detail, detailing
your daily work and functions and your setbacks and accomplishments.
This part is the most important part of your report and a great care both in writing and
technical contents must be taken.
Your daily summary contained in the logbook should support the information presented
in the chapter.
In this section, the student must describe the industrial training experience gained.
3. Problems encountered
This section covers the applications of technical knowledge and soft skills for each assigned task.
This includes challenges and difficulties encountered by the student. Next, the student needs to
explain the solution(s) or action(s) taken to cope with the challenges and difficulties. It is
important to highlight the results and contributions to the company. The attainments of the
desired Program Outcomes must be demonstrated in the contents of the report.
3.1. Conclusion
This chapter summarizes the working experience identifying the student’s strength and
weaknesses during training, and describes how the industrial attachment has helped his/her
personal growth, development, and preparation or expectation for future professional work.
The student also needs to give a summary of the project(s) involved in, include a project
description and his/her role(s) in each particular project. These conclusion needs to relate back to
the learning outcomes of industrial training.
Student should provide an overall discussion in this section and arrive at a conclusion with
regards to the industrial training undergone. Contents may include:

This chapter should include discussion of various issues and problems encountered.
It can also include recommendations and suggestions for the improvements of the industrial
training program.
It could end up with positive conclusion or really discouraging conclusion, depending on
your experiences and personal and professional gains.
Your report size must be minimum 35 and maximum 45 pages.
